Appreciate it folks but we will be OK I think. As long as the temp agency can get her another job in the next week or two I can work enough overtime to be OK.

With all this talk of Cadbury creme eggs, fun (not fun) fact is that I actually grew up in Bournville, Birmingham - home of the very Cadbury factory that makes said chocolate. Let me tell you the smell of chocolate wafting across the schoolyard every day was delicious torture.

Woah, woah, woah there! I worked for London Underground for nearly 5 years and I won't stand for any of that sass-mouth when it comes to the Underground. Considering its construction history (because yeah, having a bunch of competing companies building separate sections of the network over different time periods was never going to be problematic for providing a unified service long-term!) and general age (being started at a time when not two fucks were given about such things as future capacity or disabled access because...well...you know...Britain! :rotate:) it's done an admirable job to even still be (mostly) functional.

That and the fact that moving away from London really made me miss having any kind of metro network for the day to day commute. Although, admittedly that was before I learned to drive, so nowadays I'm admittedly somewhat less....invested in public transport generally.

    It's all saltwater these days:
    Ocean, tears and heartbreak soup
Half alive in a whitecap foam
Half in love with a white half moon

My girlfriend and I decided that Wednesday would be a good day to go to the climbing gym, on account of everyone being busy elsewhere. Turns out the gym was stuffed full of climber couples who had all made that exact same calculus. It was super fun, though, because the gym had set up a Valentine's "partner climb" where each person is restricted to a particular set of holds and you each have to grab and hang off of the other person in order to progress up the wall.

A lot of the oldest trees in Britain are yews I think, because for some reason churches were often built next to yews and so then they were protected by virtue of being in the church grounds.

When I last visited home I went to the national arboretum, and on the map was marked the garden's oldest tree, like 1000 years old, and I got really excited to see it because I'm a dork. The whole way around I was anticipating this huge, gnarled, majestic ent of a tree. And then we got there and it was about a 10m diameter patch of spindly bush-trees about 5 or 6 feet tall, because every 25 years they coppice it. Bit anticlimactic.

You should! Redwoods are indescribable. Walking through the forests is just so peaceful - and actually there's very few roots above ground, so walking tends to be a little easier underfoot than in other forests. They're probably my favourite thing about the west coast.

Obligatory @moriveth in a redwood pic:

Yeah, given its age, the tube is really quite impressive! And omg, living near the Cadbury factory...!

One of the things I find fascinating about redwoods is that they actually grow pretty fast. A 20-year-old redwood would be a pretty darn big tree by any definition.

Hey love thread! Just got back from a Valentine's camping trip. We went up in the Welsh mountains, and since we were the only ones crazy enough to be camping there this time of year, they let us stay in the cabin for no extra cost.

Boy, let me tell you. That night sky. Folks, if you you ever want a super romantic stargazing session, go find a designated dark zone. No light pollution.

I dooooo want that. Some day. Only it might not be so romantic because I can't imagine the kids letting us going camping by ourselves.

I bet it was beautiful up in the mountains, too! Wales is so pretty!

Yup, we spent all of valentine's day walking in the countryside and chilling in the cabin. It was chilly but gorgeous. Pretty sure we passed though an enchanted forest at one point?

(Also I just realised this is hehe first time I've posted here since I went to pick up my girlfriend from the airport at the start of the month. It's been a haze of snuggles and happiness, so I kind of lost track!)

I grew up in a small town and didn't really appreciate light pollution until I left.

Sunday morning my roommate and I are taking a train up into Canada for his 30th birthday.

I just ordered some ferric chloride and a brass sheet and am going to give brass etching a red hot go.

My first project is a beware of dog sign for our gate for Bodhi. I just need to decide on the design.
