In a stroke of luck that will never be repeated I managed to get an excellent curveball while catching a Squirtle yesterday so now I have put that whole quest behind me. At least that thing forced me to learn how to do curveballs after a couple years of never bothering.
I'm afraid of all the stupid quests I'll end up stuck on that stupid one somehow once I actually get there
I was sweating that one too (I never curveball) and I managed to knock it out in less than an hour. Big, relatively close Pokemon are great for it -- if you're near water or know of a nest Wailmers are perfect. Tauros works well too if you're in the Americas.
That's good to know. I've been seeing a lot of Tauros around lately. I was thinking if I am quick enough with this (who the hell knows) I might be able to use the Snorlax research rewards to try too. But I suspect I won't get there in time due to the Magikarp thing. I'm still ~120 candies away from a Gyrados which isn't *too* bad but I really gotta find a nest or something. Maybe tomorrow there'll be a convenient one in the changeover (just my luck that I only get back into this game at the very tail end of the park near my work being a Magikarp nest ).
There's also the Ditto/Ghost thing which I have been slowly chipping away at thanks to two of this month's quest random encounters being Gastly (throw a nice curveball and throw 3 Great Throws) so I'm 3/10 ghosts on that. I caught a ditto *before* getting to that step so rip But I hear they are more common this month or something?

Just got my third EXraid invite.
I earned it today with a raid right after lunch. I was finished eating and my coworkers weren't so I looked at telegram and saw a small group meeting for a 4* in 3 minutes. So I rushed over because I knew it was a possible EX location.

I'm only 4/10 but slowly making progress by hunting pokestops for the gastly reward quests (been able to find like one per day so far). Still need a ditto
What is the ghastly reward quest? It wouldn't happen to be battle a gym is it?
It's either "Make 3 Great Throws" or "Land a Nice Curveball Throw" - obviously both have to have the "mystery pokemon" as the reward (I found a 3 Great Throws one that rewarded regular pokeballs today... made me sad ). Those are always Gastly (at least for this month - sure they will rotate out in August)
Also since this is only something I just learned recently - I guess every pokestop has a fixed quest it offers that changes each day (and once you complete it you can't get another one from there until the next day). So you only need to hit up each one once and can dump the quest if it's something you don't like.
Specifically, the bonuses are boosted hatch and catch candy, lowered egg distance and extra raid rare candies.
The next event ("late summer") is all about stardust.

So yay, I have been added to my local raiding Facebook group. Now I can get all the cool pokemans like the cool people
And side note, stopped by a park after work yesterday and caught two sableyes. So yay, 6/10 ghosts. If only I could find a damn ditto....
Also since yesterday have thrown 4 excellent curve balls and am sad that I am not on that step yet T_T This is gonna be like the random ditto I caught while still on the gym/raid step

So across the street from Rutgers Stadium, is a park that basically only serves as a nice long path for runners. Along said path, are these little stations for you to do various exercises. There's like, 15 of these. Thanks to someone going bonkers during the Ingress days, every one of these is a pokestop. So if any of you were wondering what the hell was on your Postcard today, there's your explanation.
But! My favorite part of the day came when I reached the end of that trail, where there's like a mini recreated 1770's village. Among the blacksmith and the church and the giftshop, was a dude with homemade multi-phone tray, spinning away on six different cell phones. Honestly, I was super impressed. The level of commitment this dude had to have to be in this weird little cul-de-sac at 8 in the morning, spinning away on all of his devices, who am I to judge.

So since I finally got a ditto, wanted to try and brute force the last four ghosts I needed. Went out at ~10:30pm and ended up staying out until 1am.. haha.. I guess with this event they are also putting out some good pokemans since there were magmars and aerodactyls all over.
A preview of some of my catches:
(The Porygon was an egg hatch, as was one of the Frebases)
Also apparently shittons of ghosts come out ~11:30 because they were everywhere
...and apparently loads of uncommon Pokemon. On a lunch run I caught an Aerodactyl, a Swinub, a Feebas and lots of the gen 3 starters, most of which are hard to find around where I live.

Did another raid today with my daughter. It was a soloable one but it was nice to help her get it (she just hit level 12). It's been a neat experience having her play this. Sadly, I count a 2700 Blissey as easy mode. They usually have over 3k here. But yeah, Blisseys suck for low level players, you basically have to wait for it's motivation to drop enough and hope it doesn't get fed. At some point you'll have a team of Machamps like us and can cut through those pink blobs like butter. (the best Blisseys take roughly 1.5 Machamps for me)
Also don't use that Snorlax to attack, it's better as a defender.
My best Blissey removers are a couple of Machamps, an Ursaring with fighting moves (Counter and... something else) and, oddly, a Kabutops with a quick fighting move and Water Pulse. it can still take a while.
I used to just ignore dealing with Blisseys in gyms until I maxed out my really good Machamp, he just destroys them.

Hm. I didn't realize Blissey didn't get Faerie type. I've still had pretty good success throwing Roselias at ~2500 ones, which are the only 'mon I can reliably find at 1000+ around here.

Well at least you whippersnappers don't have to deal with the old gym mechanics where there was a level 10 gym with at least 8 Blisseys. Not that I dealt with that either, I just didn't do gym battles until they switched to the new model, but I remember gosh darnit.

The old mechanics were ass. I still remember grinding a gym up to level 10 only to have someone else steal my new slot before I could put a pokemon in it. I was super pissed
