Sped up, that's a satellite timelapse
Tampa's dodging the very middle but it's close and probably still gonna get fucked, stay safe.

Last web cam image I got from my home was water to the door handle
Living space is very elevated but rip to the contents of my garage

There’s several feet of storm surge forecast for the GA/SC coast now too, and a week’s worth of rain deluge to leave a foot or two of standing water even after the storm surge recedes

Um
The Hurricane hasn’t even reached land yet
Whycome so much water already
storm surge inundation estimate: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at4+shtml/160155.shtml?inundation#contents
The twitter video is from Fort Meyers Beach specifically which is in the middle of one of the current highest surge zones
IN this specific case it's actually ok - so long as they stay up on the road/seawalls and don't walk out into it. They bay is actually being pushed out (as the winds are coming from the NE to the SW) as opposed to being sucked out (like you would see pre-tsunami). It won't be until later today/tomorrow when the Eye passes Tampa to the east before the bay starts to come back in and flood.

Oh, dear god! No!

Shit was pretty bananas here until about 9
It's finally calm, or almost calm I should say
Early word is everything ground level where I live is completely submerged to the ceiling.
Will be unlikely to be allowed to return for several days and most optimistic scenario for livable conditions is 2 weeks.
My sister in law who lives close to where my old house used to be also took on large amounts of water. I think had I not moved last year to an elevated home I probably would have lost everything.

The rest of the state will be getting rainwater flooring the next few days now, and then we’ll see what happens when it gets back out to the Atlantic before slamming into the coast again

Well I just found out that the electric and internet are out, but otherwise he's fine. Dude's been sitting at the kitchen table drinking wine and doing crossword puzzles by flashlight.
Hope everyone in the area and their families are safe. The videos coming from the coast have been heartbreaking to watch.
Nothing to do but laugh and trust your pilots. How often does a hurricane flight get into actual distress, anyways? They're basically diving those planes into storms regularly for data, aren't they?

edit: Here's a page with the live broadcast of the NBC affiliate.
Apparently 6 planes have gone down costing 53 lives.
None since 1974 though.
“Oh so that’s why hurricanes are so catastrophic”
It’s incredible how electricity and cell service have persisted in this one, I don’t recall there being this many time lapses surviving or real-time streaming to document so precisely what makes these so catastrophic
Whenever the damage is more storm surge based than wind services are capable of staying on longer. Contrast it with Michael who took cat 5 winds and just straight said fuck you to our infrastructure and that’s how you end up without power and cell service for weeks, and sewer too because pump stations without power are also useless.
I've evacuated further north. The damage is much worse than I predicted yesterday.
My home is not accessible via car anymore. Just waiting on police to lift the blockade so I can find out if total loss or not. Even if my stuff is in tact, the building is still standing, the entire town around my house is literally destroyed down to the sand so it's likely no longer habitable.
Time to move!

Just……gone
This is the area on that video
