ive got these bushes in my front yard that are starting to produce fruit (berries) like crazy, and I've never seen anything like what they're dropping
the berries are about the same size and shape of a large green olive
exterior is dark blue or black
interior is 100% pure white, and i think it has a pit as a seed, a singular large pit
i've got dozens of these bushes, and each of them has hundreds of them right now... wondering if they're edible
if this doesn't ring any bells, I'll take a picture later to aid identification
i tried google but about 5 different attempts at "large blue berry" just reveals pages about actual blueberries, and i found about 10 "things that look like blueberries" which do not match
Pics. Picture of the berries and the leaves. Do they grow singular or in clusters?

Pictures of the berries cut in half so we can see the cross section/seeds/pit may also help.
Also, where do you live? Not specific address, but general region could help as well.
Cocoplums. Chrysobalanus icano.
They're edible, and what they taste like depends insanely much on your genetics (for some they taste like cotton, for others like coconut with a slight almondy taste).
They're best used to make jam/jelly (including the seeds which you crush once the jelly has cooked).

hmm yup. that's what they are. i tried a few. they taste pretty much exactly as described
like very slightly sweetened coconut or almond milk
tasty, but annoying to eat, since the pit seems to be about 80% of the mass of the thing
if anyone wants some, I've got about.... mmm, roughly 10,000
I'm not sure if these would be good for it, but maybe posting on a local board to see if anyone wants to harvest them to make some wine or something like that out of them would be a good way to deal with them (if you don't want them to stick around and keep dropping in your yard). I know when my dad juiced down his own fruit for wine making, he needed loads and loads of fruit.
You can make them into Jam/sauce quite easily. Wash them and then cook them until softy and juicy. Then you strain them through a food mill to remove seeds&skins. Then you need to decide what to do with them.
If you're going to make jam, mix with 1 part sugar to 2 parts cocoplums (and a bit of pectin) and cook until you can do the plate test (take a drip, drop it on a cool plate and if it's not runny after a few seconds it's done), but I've heard that cocoplum&amaretto sauce is divine with icecream&belgian waffles.

but after he didn't get sick I wondered if I could eat them because I like wild fruit
