Why is the starter bundle so terrible? you have piqued my interest.
It's like $5 cheaper and it takes waaaaaay more time to unlock the operators than in the base game. You're basically trading a $5 savings for a massive grind that's not worth it.

You heard it here first, folks. World of warcraft is the stripper model.
So there I am getting an unscheduled lesson on how to change a flat tire - ironically and coincidentally, before bringing the car in for routine service anyway - when my phone buzzes from an email notice. I'm in the shop waiting, finally get a chance to check, and lo and behold, a most classy @Pixelated Pixie has decided to rectify a wrong some two years in the making:
Thanks a ton for Zafehouse Diaries! The only thing I've played from Screwfly before was Deadnaut, and while I didn't get very far it was enough to interest me in the rest of their catalog. This in particular looks more management oriented than the usual mucky-muck of physically going out and confronting Zeke for crafting materials. Dead State and State of Decay both cover that niche nicely, so I'm always interested in how else survival settings can play out. Looking forward to trying this, thanks again!
After spending most of the day swapping parts in and out to find something that worked, Shdwcaster Jr. has a PC all his own.
Sure it’s a P4 3.0 GHz machine with a Radeon 9800 and 2gb of RAM running Win 7, but it’s his, and he can play a major chunk of my Steam/GoG/CDROM library on that.
Now it just has to get through the 178 critical Win 7 updates. And I need to find drivers that work for the onboard audio. And swap out the CPU fan, since the rig keeps shutting down...
Maybe I should have just bought a $500 motorcycle of Craigslist for us to work on in the garage instead.
Started Prey and have a few hours in, and at this point I have no idea how they managed to greenlight this project.
Why? Because the whole open-world fps in a space station with RPG and horror elements is not, I think, an easy sell. And yet they managed to get this made and deliver in the process!
It's unbelievable to far: roaming around inside the station, outside, facing the Typhon slowly (or my preferred way: murder corridors.) And then there's Rogue-Like DLC for this? Damn, I'll have to check that out once I'm done with the main game, which judging by my ability to get sidetracked every 5 minutes it's going to take a while.

It's extremely is to get a game like that started. But first we'll have to take out some of the rpg elements to make room for crafting so we can gate that behind microtransactions. And we'll have to get rid of some of the horror so we can add in some forced AI co-op as well as a third NPC for a love triangle twist. And we'll also have to make sure that free DLC comes out as part 1 of 1 of our season pass that people will pony up for ahead of time under the impression there's more to come.

So uhh, we ran this through Focus and everyone got lost, let's go ahead and get rid of any rooms not directly vital to the story.
Also we're gonna need you to come up with three or four cosmetic versions of the main character's gun that we can use for retailer preorder bonuses (final promotional partners are TBD right now, but legal is almost finished hammering out a preliminary contract with Best Buy and Gamestop, so make sure one of the skins is yellow and another one is green).
Lastly, crunch begins on 08/20 (Monday), all employees are on mandatory 12 hour shifts (with at least eight of those hours required to be somewhere between 8am and 6pm) and all time off requests are frozen until further notice.

Prey is legitimately one of my all-time favorite "first-person and you have a gun most of the time" games.
@Stolls I had a flat at work about a month ago. The nut holding the spare in the trunk has siezed. When I finally got the spare out, I put it on the car, only to discover the spare was flat.
Double check your backup/emergency gear, folks.
(My wife lugged my air compressor into her car and drove it up so I could pump up the spare. Twas good times)
@Stolls@Mugsley I had a blowout last week at 70mph. Mentioned it in the D&D cars thread. Luckily I was able to pull into a fortuitously-placed gas station as I slowed. The space saver spare came out of the car and onto the wheel hub just fine, but was at about 40psi rather than 60. It was unused and probably the one that came with the car (it's a 2010 car that I got about 18 months ago). Being at a gas station I was able to inflate it correctly before I went on my way, with about 40 miles to go to get home.
But yeah, the point stands. It's easy to skimp on checking that stuff, but it's well worth doing periodically.
(An annoyance I noticed with my car is that the spare is mounted in the car with its valve facing down, so I have to actually get it out of the car just to check it. Dumb bit of design. Mind you, I had a car once where the only way I could figure out how to get the spare out would have required deflating it completely. So it's at least a step up from that idiocy.)
Yikes. To be clear, those are 'glad you guys are okay' awesomes, and an emphatic agreement to check your backup stuff. It boggles the mind that some cars don't even come with a spare; you might never actually need it, but when you do, you capital-N Need it. See also a backup hard drive and battery/gas generator for your sump, both of which I've needed more than once.
Speaking of emergency planning, I'm impressed with the additions to They Are Billions as it gets closer to release. They've been coming out with quite a few balance changes and new additions to survival mode, shoring up weaknesses in certain units and adding stuff like Wonders buildings (a massive investment for significant bonuses, like all-unit veterancy or major power/food/income boosts). Just took a whack at a default difficulty map, and the new giant infected aren't kidding around. A squad of 20 rangers, 20 soldiers, and 15 snipers went out to kill one, and while they succeeded, only about a dozen shell-shocked survivors managed to limp back to base. There's a reason the game marks their position on the minimap for you.
In short, if you've got your eye on the game but are worried about the Early Access label, don't be. The devs seem like they're listening to feedback and they're keeping updates coming at a steady clip; they're doing a lot right here, and it's been worth checking in periodically to see what's new.
Any Final Fantasy Tactics fans here? I stumbled upon this Fell Seal that just entered Early Access and decided to give it a try since I liked what I was seeing and it was pretty cheap (13e? something like that) on Green Man Gaming. Bought it around 7pm, now it's 3am and I have 7 hours played already. Not sure if I should tell people to stay away from such drug or ask them to give it a try so I'd have some company in my self-inflicted misery.
So much customization for one, you can have a team of pink plague doctors if you want that actually are Peddler/Scoundrels that use Mercenary skills. Or healer-wizards or ranger-knights. Looks pretty, animations are rather simple but they work, UI works and there's even a decent story (with a female main protagonist if that matters, she's pretty cool too).
That's probably enough shillin', time to eat something and watch some more Disenchanted.

I kickstarted this some time ago, and it's basically a PC-ized FF: Tactics.
Which is totally my jam.
And, yeah - the character customization is pretty awesome, though so far (I haven't been playing too terribly long) I've kept everyone wearing their Job hats (e.g., Scoundrels get a kind of cat-eared bandana thing).
Just like FF:Tactics, you can unlock new jobs by progressing in the old ones. One thing I like is that characters in battles (and on the sideline?) gain XP in the job of anyone who does something. So, like, if your Mercenary uses their push attack against an enemy, they gain 10 Mercenary XP - and everyone else gets 2 Mercenary XP (or whatever the ratio is).
One thing I wish it had (and this is a pretty minor complaint) is a "Match portrait" command in character customization, that would automatically adjust your stuff to the closest presets for the portrait you chose.

Definitely check the spare tire before you need it. Don't be like me and find out you've got a lake in the spare tire well because the trunk leaks. It does not end well I tell you. Narrator: When you finally put the spare on and let the jack down it just deflates with a sad squishing noise while vomiting dirty water all over your shoes. Best. Day. Evar! :P
The wife’s WoW subscription is almost over and she doesn’t want to buy the new expansion. Her favorite part of the game was selling stuff on the in-game market to stockpile lots of gold for Blizzard Tokens. I told her she should just get a money/stock market simulator game on Steam.
Surely one exists, right? If so, any suggestions?

Played some more Nier Automata last night. Boy this game sure is self aware about it's audience.
If the censored the word is "play" then hell yeah do I want to play her character again. Scanning sucks :P
Got a Smash Bros itch that won't properly be scratched until December.
Probably going to get Rivals of Aether. Been eyeing it every now and then but wasn't really feeling it until now.
It's really good!
Honestly the only issue I have with the game is that, due to it being a niche game, online you basically only find people who are very dedicated to it, and so basically going online means you get bodied without the chance to actually learn anything.
Steamworld Dig 2 continues to impress. It's sensational. Really digging this renewed vigor to enjoy metroidvanias as their associated ilk. Thanks brain!
@Antoshka was polling something. The choice was chicken or not chicken. I went with chicken. Apparently that meant I agreed with Corrigan and it was the wrong choice.

I feel like y'all are contagious. I showed up at the ranch yesterday and had to change a flat rear tire on a horse trailer out in the field with a fifteen-year-old spare tire.
Those tires are quite something. I had to jump off a buggy to loosen the nuts and used a shovel as a lever to get the tire in place over the bolts.
