    Command + Special Activity
First, Battle in West Indies (French pay 1 resource).

    Battle in West Indies
British and French each have two regulars, so no die rolls.
French loss level = 0 +1 (at least half defenders are regulars) -1 (British defending in West Indies with squadron present) = 0
British loss level = 0 +1 (at least half attackers are regulars) = 1
Outcome: British lose one regular in West Indies

Then, Naval Pressure, setting FNI to 3 and moving one Blockade from West Indies to Boston.

Finally, Battle in New York City with French and Patriot forces (French pay 1 resource, Patriots pay 1 resource).

    Battle in New York City
    Attackers Force Level = 8 French Regulars + 3 Continentals = 11
    Defenders Force Level = 5 British Regulars + 1 Tory + 1 Fort = 7

Attackers roll 3d3, Defenders roll 2d3.

Geth, roll 3d3 for base British loss level
Geth, roll 2d3 for base Rebellion loss level

    base British loss level:
    3d3 5 [3d3=3, 1, 1]
    base Rebellion loss level:
    2d3 3 [2d3=2, 1]

Battle in New York City resolution
    British loss level = 5 + 1 (half attacking cubes regulars) + 1 (attacking leader) -1 (defending fort) = 6
Rebellion loss level = 3 + 1 (half defending cubes regulars) + 1 (defending fort) -1 (British defending in Blockaded City) = 4

    Outcome in NYC:
British lose, in order, a regular, a tory, a regular, and a regular. +4 British casualties.
Rebellion loses a French regular and a Continental. +2 Rebellion Casualties.

So, British casualties go to 12, Rebellion casualties go to 10. New York City goes to Active Support via Win the Day. Rebellion control in West Indies.

@TheColonel for a Limited Command or the Minister Comte event.

  • admanbadmanb unionize your workplace Seattle, WARegistered User regular
Maybe a little premature but how would people feel about calling this game and restarting with new factions? It leaves the Patriots vs. French in the lurch but I kind of feel like this gap is too big to overcome.

  • HedgethornHedgethorn Associate Professor of Historical Hobby Horses In the Lions' DenRegistered User regular
If no one else wants to play out the endgame, that's fine with me, I guess.

It my first time playing so I’m not sure what comebacks look like, but if you think it’s decided I’m all for going again.

I want to look back and see what turn was the decider. Without looking back I feel that first winter was really good for the Rebellion.

I'm fine with playing it out. I'm guessing there'll be an instant win in the next WQ.

I think the early first winter was rough on the British and I think some of the sequences of events were really brutal on them as well. I also think the British are one of the toughest factions to play and need to start with an aggressive plan.

After we play it out I'd love to start again and take the British this time, if everyone else is up for it.

  • TheColonelTheColonel ChicagolandRegistered User regular
Sorry for the delay, had a slight motorcycle incident this weekend and have been a bit out of sorts.

I'm ok playing things out if people want to keep going to see whether it's a French or Patriot win. I do apologize to admanb for being a bad "partner". First time playing and I think you're right the Brits do need to be pretty aggressive early on. I also hadn't fully read how the Winter Quarter functioned and that definitely hurt.

Restarting is fine too. Let me know.

  • admanbadmanb unionize your workplace Seattle, WARegistered User regular
Sorry to hear that, but I'm glad to hear you're okay. Let's finish this up! The more experience we all get the more interesting the next game will be.

Tronson de Coudray Arrives in America

Considered a military expert in France, in 1776, he volunteered
to go to America to assist the Patriots. Silas Deane promised him a
commission as major-general with command of the artillery. This offended
officers already attached to the army, and his superior attitude
and aristocratic demeanor did nothing to improve relations with
others. On September 11, 1777, he was drowned while crossing the
Schuylkill River at Philadelphia, the horse on which he was seated
becoming frightened and dragging him overboard. It is rumored
than only his aide-de-camp attempted a rescue.

    Patriots +3 resources to 5.

Indians will take Command+SA spend three resources to Raid from the Northwest into New York, Maryland-Delaware, and Virgina. Opposition goes to neutral in each space and total opposition drops to 13.

Then they'll trade in the Northwest. @TheColonel to decide how much, if any, to give me.

I'll have a map update shortly.

in 1778 was part of the stepped-up British campaign of

Shifts can spread to adjacent spaces. Also, you can move your blockade from the city you battled in.

Also (and I always forget this one) Patriots get a free Rally.

Wow, I completely overlooked that paragraph of the rules.

Win the Day generates one shift to opposition. Use it on New York, moving New York to Passive Opposition. (Or is there a raid marker in New York? If so, that gets removed instead.)
French move Blockade to Charles Town.
Patriots get a free rally in one space; I'm not sure if I choose or not. If I get to choose, put two militia in Charles Town (1 fort + 1 population). Otherwise, "A Half Eaten Oreo" for a free rally.

Edit: Win the Day is part of the battle procedure steps in the rulebook, so I'm pretty sure I choose where the patriots rally.

There is a Raid in NY but it doesn't effect Win the Day. Raids/Propaganda only effect spending $$$ for shifts.

There's only one available militia. Should I just place one or also a Continental?

    Confusion Allows Slaves to Escape

As a result of the American Revolution, thousands of slaves freed
themselves by running away. In Georgia alone, 5,000 slaves, a third
of the colony’s prewar total, escaped. In South Carolina, a quarter
    of the slaves achieved freedom..
