Yes getting a cs job without a cs degree has been... not fun

Often like a physics or math degree counts and no degree is a huge barrier and I'm like

I liked Mindhunters because Anna Torv fed that stray cat in the laundry room window. That was nice.

I really like Anna Torv should I watch Mindhunters

I think so, it was good although creepy.

There's a lot of murdertalk and killertalk in it.

hmm I don't generally like murderstuff but

are there perhaps two Anna Torvs in it?
like, there's one and then also a different one with different colored hair?

that's the kind of Anna Torv content I enjoy and am accustomed to

A degree is really preposterously helpful in getting an entry level computing job

Where I work, the only way to get a programming job without a degree is to start in Sales or Manufacturing and swim against the current. Prove yourself by working your normal job AND going above and beyond, shoehorning in programming and showing it off to the right people.

It’s been done a few times and I’m super impressed when someone does it, but it takes like 5 years and it’s real hard and if you have a degree you can just waltz right in the door by contrast.

The whole self-taunt programmer thing has been mostly dead for a while, all the big places want degrees to even look at you

Mindhunters is about the FBI people who try to get the FBI to get onboard with the entire idea of there being "serial killers" and also that understanding them helps catching them

not really the murderstuff. It's very good, I think.

    I am tired.

I was in Pennsylvania the last two days for a friends wedding. Yesterday was basically a full day of low level drinking with a lot of drinking at the end. The hotel I stayed at kind of sucked and I didn't really sleep at all.

I am kind of out of it today.

But I drove home and walked the dog. Just kind of zoning out and watching the last episode of the current season of Terrance House after watching Venture Bros last night. Venture Bros was really really good.

I mean I've worked with several people without a degree, some who got the job recently

    It's not hopeless

It just sucks and takes forever even if you succeed and you get paid less

I wouldn't necessarily tell someone not to try a boot camp if a four year program wasn't on the table
