    Taxes done!

My wife and I file jointly and make 95k a year....We weren't sure how it was going to look this year with the changes + kiddo born in 2018.

We got $7k back, up $2500 from last year, but I think $3-4k of that was the dependent credit + deductions for child care.

    We're still overwithholding, but,

my only ? on that build is that seems like alot of hardware for a 550 PSU

That's not bad, the 10- and 20- series cards sip power, especially the x60 and lower models. Nvidia really did an extraordinary job with power efficiency on Pascal.

I told one of my aunts that I'd be driving in for my grandmother's birthday dinner, then driving back out.

In the past day, I've gotten independently, 4 text threads each from each aunt, telling me that

1.) Night driving is dangerous! (it is not)
2.) The weather will be bad (it is not)
    3.) It's too much driving (it's 3 hours total)
4.) I should get a dog sitter for my dog and then stay in a hotel (an absolutely absurd expense for no reason)

god I hope this level of anxiety isn't some kind of genetic timebomb

wait, so it's 1.5 hours there, and 1.5 hours back?

    or three hours each way?

they're maddeningly anxious either way but like how bad is it

Also, @21stCentury - if possible I would recommend trying to catch a 1070 or 1070ti on sale rather than a 2060. I just picked up a 1070ti (which should bench around a 2070?) for $330 on a good sale in January, although I'm not sure if similar sales are dwindling as stock is used up.

The 20- series cards basically bench one tier higher than a respective 10-series (i.e. 1070=2060, 1080=2070) and have RTX, but RTX is also enabled on 10-series cards now

Just to be sure, based on your comment, I ran the build through CoolerMaster's PSU calculator and it came up with a power draw just over 400W.

You can get legit PSUs at Best Buy now. When you factor in shipping and wait time, they aren't even overpriced. Weirdest timeline.

I bought a laptop for my mom from them last week. It was cheaper than Amazon. They didn't even pressure me into geek squad or extended warranty BS. I kept looking for Rowdy Roddy Piper in sunglasses.

    Don’t skimp on the psu

I apparently overestimated the power consumption on the newer nvidias

People love to shit on Windows, but so many computer crashes are caused by instability in the power system. The closer a PSU gets to it's max wattage (Which decreases over time), the more unstable the voltage. Little fluctuations cause errors. Errors cause crashes. People then freak out, "FUCKING WINDOWS", meanwhile, their $30 PSU is going into convulsions.

It's the one part you should over engineer. Go higher than what you expect.

This picker is alright but I’d recommend buying the parts elsewhere, this site has like a 50% markup.

Both are good! Vet even said Skitters is in really good shape for 14 years.

But he's old and doesn't want to play much with Layla. And Layla doesn't like snuggling with him. So we're hoping a super social kitten will thread the needle between the two by playing with Layla and snuggling with Skitters.
