Going for a long drive this weekend. Podcast recommendations?

I'll be driving for about 14 hours this weekend, so I'd love to get some new podcast recommendations. Right now, I mostly listen to tabletop gaming-related podcasts, along with some of the shows by the Pod Save America crew.

Things I'd like:
-On a specific topic and "timeless" (ie, not focused specifically on news RIGHT now)
-Something related to the paranormal/supernatural (I've tried Welcome to Night Vale, but it's just not my thing)

Any recommendations?

If you're interested in fiction The Magnus Achives, Archive 81, The White Vault, Homecoming, and the Horror of Dolores Roach are my favorite horror podcasts.
For non fiction timeless season 1 and 3 of Serial are both good, though season 3 on the Justice system is pretty infuriating. Slow Burn is also good, the first season is focused on Watergate, going into a lot of detail I never knew.

For paranormal/supernatural, I've enjoyed "Not Alone", "The Black Tapes" and (I'm not caught up but s1 was good) "Darkest Night".

Black tapes is one continuous story in podcast form. Almost more like a book on tape. Very Serial-esque, but fictional about a demonic/paranormal occurrence. By the end of the last season it gets a little crazy, but I still enjoyed it.
Darkest Night has a main over-arching plot, but each episode has it's own twisted/twilight zone type story that ties back into the main overarching plot. Season 1 had a really good ending but I haven't dug into S2 yet.

"Not Alone" is a nice topical, non-fiction/documentary style deep dive into various occult/paranormal/supernatural topics. Each episode is stand alone, although they have a couple part 1/part 2's, and sometimes they reference previous episodes if topics relate/overlap.

For lighter fare, I've been enjoying "Mission to Zyxx". It's sort of like if the orville was a podcast maybe? I've never actually watch Orville but the premise seems similar.

Hello from the Magic Tavern is a fun improv podcast. It’s about a guy who fell through a portal in to a magical land and set up a podcast from there.

"David Tennant Does a Podcast With..." made my last road trip a joy. This is assuming you like David Tennant, though.

Something a bit out of left field (but definitely aimed at your first request), but my wife really likes the Disgraceland podcast, which goes into the sordid history of successful musicians: Kurt Cobain, Johnny Cash, Snoop Dogg, Amy Winehouse, Marvin Gaye ...

Do you like d&d or people playing d&d than I recommend: the adventure zone.

It's a podcast of a few guys trying d&d with their dad and making a very high quality and entertaining podcast. I am at ep 56 at the moment.

Start with the first season. Each season is a containted adventure but they build on the previous.

Last Podcast On The Left is a gem of a podcast hosted by semi-but-not-actually-famous hollywood person Henry Zebrowski and 2 of his long time friends. They have been doing it for a long time, and each podcast (or series of podcasts) will cover a specific topic which they helpfully title each episode with. With 7 years of content to go through you are bound to find something that interests you.

They have a rather crude, dark, and juvenile sense of humor, but if you get to know the presenters a little you quickly realize they could be regular members of this forum.

I'm a big fan of audiobooks for road trips, if you haven't done the Dresden files, James Marsters is a treat.

My mom and I audio booked American Gods and Anansi Boys when we drove from Colorado to Virginia. That was pretty great, and the books are amazing.

I'll echo Last Podcast On The Left being good.

If you're ok with kinda dry history as a subject, I absolutely love Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. He only puts out a few podcasts a year, but they will be super well researched 4 hour long deep dives into, like, ancient Persia. He has a few up for free at any given time, but others are behind a paywall on his website. His WW1 and Persia series are free right now and are good.

His series of podcasts on WW1 is possibly one of the best he has ever done, so I highly recommend checking it out. Two of them would probably cover your entire trip, they are *long.*

I'm a fan of most of what Doodman recommended. As far as the Dollop goes I'd recommend Chastity Balls, The Phantom of the Open, Action Park, the Iraq War, The Cereal Men, When the Cars Came and Moving Day.

I know there is an audiobook version of Worm available and while I haven't listened to it and can't speak to the quality of the performance the story is outstanding.
An introverted teenage girl with an unconventional superpower, Taylor goes out in costume to find escape from a deeply unhappy and frustrated civilian life. Her first attempt at taking down a supervillain sees her mistaken for one, thrusting her into the midst of the local ‘cape’ scene’s politics, unwritten rules, and ambiguous morals. As she risks life and limb, Taylor faces the dilemma of having to do the wrong things for the right reasons.

For timeless podcast: BBC In Our Time. It's Melvyn Bragg and a selection of academics and/or experts discussing a topic. It's usually kind of socratic in that Bragg asks questions to lead the conversation through what it is, and why it's important. Recent topics for a flavour:

    - The Inca
    - The life, ideas and language of Sir Thomas Browne (1605-82), a doctor sharing his personal views on science, history and religion at a time of great change
    - The ideas of Henri Bergson on how our experience of time as a duration differs from the scientific measurement of time, and why that matters.
    - The origins of teeth, their link to hard scales on fish such as sharks and why some species regenerate theirs but humans do not.
    - The poetry of Antarah (525-608AD), his historical context before Islam, how his work relates to other poets in that period, and his legacy

For supernatural/paranormal (although it's heavy on the horror): The White Vault is a good fiction podcast about an expedition to Svalbard.

    KPCS (Kevin Pollak Chat Show)

It's over now but there's something like 400ish episodes.

Kevin Pollak just has lengthy conversations with various people in the entertainment industry generally starting with what led them to that path and how they got started but it's very conversational

The Speed Racer and or Point Break episodes of Blank Check are also highly recommended as starting points for a podcast.
