yeah the politics article thing cut down a pretty long response from him to a few short sentences that also included an error (by Chris, admittedly) that changed the meaning of something entirely
also yeah he's got some pretty strong grievances with some of the leadership at Obsidian but from what I've heard they're pretty legitimate
I thought he was pretty fun during that giant bomb segment but I think he was definitely there to hang out and listen to what the others had to say because he was the only white dude developer in the room. Having met him a couple times and been to some of his talks he's definitely really charismatic, I guess he just wasn't feeling it that night
honestly I'm impressed any devs at e3 aren't just constantly exhausted

not everyone can be on all the time
and yeah his position on politics in games was bad but the part where he said he "doesn't condone" devs who make political statements was a mistake (on his part), he meant to say "condemn" there, which is to say that he considers that to be another valid approach to making games
it doesn't make his position that the games he's made are apolitical any less silly
The broader text he wrote was that he wasn't interested in writing a game to push a political point over writing a game with interesting gameplay tied to dialog and narratives.
It's a bit different from the explicitly, "yo fuck people who make political statements in games" bit that the interview implicated.
There was still a little bit of that in the original text and word choice though, (condone / condemn or something) but he walked it back a bit after the interview.
Avalone could still be a complete fucker for reasons. I'm just super wary of opinionated dude developers at this point.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 release their full roster during e3:
Black Panther Black Widow
Captain America
Captain Marvel Crystal
Daredevil
Deadpool
Doctor Strange Drax the Destroyer
Elektra Elsa Bloodstone Falcon Gamora
Ghost Rider Groot and Rocket
Hawkeye
Hulk
Iron Fist
Iron Man
Luke Cage
Magneto Miles Morales/Spider-Man Ms. Marvel
Nightcrawler
Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Psylocke
Scarlet Witch Spider-Gwen Star-Lord
Storm
Thor
Venom Wasp
Wolverine
Italics are new additions.
Obviously very MCU-influenced with the addition of the whole Guardians of the Galaxy roster from their movie, plus Black Widow and Falcon. Plus new fan favorites with Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Gwen. Wasp because she's criminally underused, and Crystal and Elsa Bloodstone because ???.
Special shout-out to Storm and Wolverine for being in all 5 games (if you count both X-Men Legends, which you should). Bummer for Iceman, who misses his first game. I think the developers know who plays well/are fan favorites, because Nightcrawler and Psylocke keep showing up.
I'm real excited for this game, loved all the previous ones.
Did they say it was their full roster? Also a lot of those were revealed months ago. At E3 I think they revealed Elsa, Ghost Rider and Elektra.
Edit: OHHHH you meant new to the series, I misunderstood sorry.
I am just unsure if it is their full roster because during the gameplay they showed, Colossus, Cyclops and Beast are all fully voiced, animated and active parts of the story (especially Beast who appears in multiple cut scenes across multiple trailers) and get title card drops so while they could be part of the X-Men DLC pack they seem like they have a solid chance of being part of the launch roster

It has those X-Men under NPCs. I guess they could be playable but my feeling is this is the final list, since it's only a month away, and it's a pretty long list already. I would love to have playable Cyclops and Colossus though.

I still take issue with this because it's still feeding the misconception of what politics are wrt stories--a misconception that mostly just benefits bad actors. Narratives are implicitly political. "Pushing a political agenda" is largely a dogwhistle for "doesn't assume and enforce the status quo" and I just don't have any time for people who act as though they don't have political views that come through in their work.
From Chris Avellone in particular it's pretty rich because his games have a LOT to say about the human condition.
Raven was a real neat studio who got devoured by Activision and have been stuck working support on Call of Duty games for 9 years now
Yup.
Rumors have it they almost managed to break back into the big time by being the lead dev on 2020's Call of Duty with Sledgehammer as support staff, but development wasn't going well so now Treyarch is turning it into a Black Ops game.

This is definitely Raven's series; they made X-Men Legends 1 and 2, which MUA is basically the sequel to
Like, if y'all want to get bummed out, look up the list of games Raven used to make and I think that most of you will find a title that you've played and liked.

That's kind of what I was getting at with my question - is Team Ninja in this case made up of folks from the old devs, in this case Raven?

I know this is a bit off topic, but I've wondered for a while.
Why does Giant Bomb seem to be such a big deal to people around here? I don't mean this combatitively, I mean this as in I truly do not know what their deal is. I've gone to the site a couple of times and kind of just like didn't get it. What is their deal? What makes them so much more relevant to people here than like, Gamespot, or Kotaku, or whatever? What is their "lane", so to speak?

GOT 'EM.
I'm watching the one with a few folks, including Cara Ellison and Chris Avellone, and it's weird how...not-charismatic Chris Avellone is
Especially compared to everyone else on that couch!
I don't think I like him very much
My opinions could be colored by the stupid bullshit he had to say about politics in games a few weeks ago, though
Oh word?

They are talking DLC for Fantastic Four, Marvel Knights, and X-Men:

yes, just like Lobo
Team Ninja is the Namco studio that made the Ninja Gaiden reboot series and still makes the Dead or Alive series, as well as the Nioh series.
She showed up for a few issues of A-Force in 2016, right as it got cancelled. Fun book.
