It just seems strange cos so much of the sigmar stuff is very much an effort to move away from that “medieval fantasy England” traditional vibe, and yet these guys look straight out of that style

Eh, it isn't a rule of theirs. Dragons are also very traditional in design.

Anyone know what a good Skaven warcry team would be? I want to try it out but I have so many options, I'm kind of lost.

I mean traditional as in they look like the Sean Connery dragon from Dragonheart. The kind of dragon that most people who are not nerds would describe if asked. The kind of traditional dragon that makes up, like, three quarters of the google image search for Dragon.

This is a thread discussing Warhammer: Age of Sigmar, which is an evolution of Warhammer Fantasy, which is a fantasy world created by Europeans that pulls heavily from traditional European fantasy.
It's perfectly acceptable to have a Eurocentric take in this scenario.

You can't trademark the traditional image of a human knight in plate armor riding a horse and carrying a spear. You can, however, trademark the image of a Stormcast Eternals Liberator, a seven foot tall warrior wielding a Grandhammer, clad in gleaming golden armor with lightning bolt and lion iconography on it.
A lot of the motivation for the more unique design decisions of Age of Sigmar was economic. It's not exactly difficult to find dirt cheap generic 28mm models of knights or orks or skeletons, and a company like GW hates having to compete with cheaper models from other manufacturers, so by moving away somewhat from traditional medieval fantasy designs they can attempt to minimize competition from proxy models. You see this a little bit in 40k as well, where generic names like "Imperial Guard" and "Space Marines" are more and more often being referred to officially as "Astra Militarum" and "Adeptus Astartes".
I don't have any of the giant models and am too lazy to look up what the sprue looks like to see how difficult it would have been to add another option, but man every single model in that army having the exact same leg pose just looks goofy as hell. Could they really not have thrown an extra leg or even foot in there somewhere?

A super easy entry team is just a box of the Plague Monks.
1x Bringer of the Word (Sgt / Leader) - 130pts
1x Censer bearer - 105pts
9x Plague Monks with staves &/ or daggers - 80pts each
The monks have good movement, and the staves double their reach to 2" which can give you a lot of options and shenanigans.
If you already have the Skaven models, 1 or 2 Rat Ogre and 1 or 2 Packmaster to pair them with. (Giant Rats used to be very powerful, but they have been heavily nerfed)
This miniature of my Warcry warband will be called "The Shades", because they've all gotten a Plagebearer Flesh basecoat, and I used different shades/washes to make them a little more varied.
(Agrax Earthshade, Reikland Flesh, Nuln Oil, Kroak Green, Poxwalker and a Game Color Green Wash from long ago).

Thank you for the suggestions for the warcry team. I don't have any ogres but I have stormfiends so I'll try a list with two stormfiends and then a plague monks heavy list cause that also sounds fun.

The skellybois are great, the Chaos chaps are... looking good, but nothing amazing. If it's priced like Nethermaze (or god forbid, higher) then I'll be passing again. If somehow it was in more of a Direchasm-y price range I'd give it a hard think.
I have yet to get Nethermaze but I had planned on getting it this week. I really do need to find a way to store the warbands {generally they go back into their boxes but they are not made for that kind of use}
Still I know the rivals format was supposed to keep the older warbands in the mix but it was a huge let down. I still would like to know about that Deadly Depths deck since like before there is a huge lack of people talking about the game

I think both of the teams are cool (and I have armies that both of them could be used in), but I stopped playing Underworlds a while back after it started going off the rails. If the new releases hit with the current prices than it would be better to get the box set at $95 as opposed to two teams at $42 a piece (paying an extra $11 would be worth it to get the boards/tokens/dice/newest rulebook to catch up and give the game another shot), but I'm just going to wait until they release the models on their own without the cards I think.
There was never a fantasy/AoS unit with spear throwers/atlatls, right? Was just wondering what new units for seraphon could be. Saurus with atlatl could be cool. High strength, long range, armour piercing, single shot shooty unit could be interesting.
The realm lords are up for pre order this next week
Sadly my brother needs nothing of it
Also the Sons of Behemat.
They mention a unit
What’s scarier than a Mancrusher Gargant? Three of them! Unleash the might of the Mancrusher Mob – led by a Bullstomper, they’ll easily smash their way through enemy units. This box includes three Mancrushers, which can alternatively be assembled as Chaos Gargants or Aleguzzler Gargants, and comes with loads of optional extras so you can personalise each of your models.[/url]

Played warcry today using the Corvus Cabal and it was pretty fun. The Corvus reactions that are dependent on vertical movement are kind of a pain.

I believe the term Slaves To Darkness came from the first big book of the 2-book Realm of Chaos series (the first focused on Khorne and Slaanesh, while the second ,The Lost and the Damned, covered Nurgle and Tzeentch). They were for the 3rd edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. They were released in the 80s or maybe the early 90s.
I vaguely remember the first one having rules to build warbands, which could be a mix of Chaos Thugs, Chaos Warriors, Beastmen, ….
But stupid me sold all my Warhammer stuff (The original hardback Rogue Trader book! Slaves to Darkness! Blood Bowl with the styrofoam pitch! Dark Future!) which I still regret to these days.
So I guess in AoS they decided to reuse the term Slaves to Darkness for Chaos troops that not necessarily belong to the Archaon faction.
(The first “generic Chaos” book for AoS was called Everchosen; later books became Slaves to Darkness).
But I guess people who have been playing before AoS can probably help you out.

After playing more warcry I am starting to feel like Skaven don't work without stormfiends or ogors.
Everything has such low health, strength, and toughness.
The censer bearers for Skaven, are those plastic or resin? It doesn't say on the product page on the GW site.

I don't have a specific list for you, but I play against skaven sometimes and Rat Ogors and/or Stormfiends are very good.

It was probably deliberate, back when they came up with it in the late seventies.

Also highly appropriate for those dedicated to either Slaanesh or Nurgle.
Yeah, a lot of the custom reactions seem to be just bonus options and warbands will instead mostly depend on the generic common ones.
