One thing I think is good about Claremont is how much he tries. Like he fucks up hard sometimes, but he also wasn’t afraid to call out bullshit from his time (the main plot of God Loves, Man Kills, the whole Genosha arc, etc.) And starts to get much better with representation after Thunderbird. It’s amusing when people talk about “pc culture” and shit and how its pervaded comics (ugghh I hare people who make this argument) when all you have to do is look at X-Men to know that a desire for diversity has always been there. And popular. X-men and New Mutants sold like hot cakes in the 80s. During that time Claremont’s X-Men was lead by a punk styled Storm. New Mutants is an explicitly diverse cast whose most popular character for a long time was a Native American girl who is so much more than the magical native stereotype that Native American characters are still saddled with to this day.
Don't forget Avengers Annual #10, where Claremont basically called out Marvel itself for publishing an incredibly misogynistic story less than a year prior.

See also: that time he used his clout as the writer of the X-Men to take over the Avengers for an annual issue and used that to do his best to fix the bullshit done to Carol Danvers in the absolute travesty that was Avengers #200.
Wiping her memory wasn't the most elegant solution to a story in which she was mind controlled, raped, and kidnapped while her teammates did nothing, but it let him bring back the character and move forward with her in a way that didn't require him to continuously acknowledge the previous story, especially where he really only had one issue to do it. That said, he brought her back from narrative exile, freed her from the baggage of that nonsense, had her call out the Avengers (and through them, the writers and editors that allowed Avengers #200 to happen), and then took her to be a major supporting cast member of the X-Men moving forward.
Oh, another interesting bit of trivia: Claremont had a short run on Iron Fist in the late 70s too, where he wrote Iron Fist getting together with Misty Knight, one of the first interracial relationships in comics!

it's one of my favourite Claremont anecdotes. I feel like it takes a certain mix of righteous anger and confidence to take over a book that you are not writing specifically to call out your employer/coworkers and publicly fix their fuckup. It also says a lot about how much pull Claremont had at Marvel at the time that he was even allowed to do it.
he wasn't even particularly subtle about it, either
You know I had heard Claremont had a weird fascination with Irish and British folklore and kept bringing it into his X-Men before just making Excalibur
But I was not expecting Leprechauns in the walls of an ancient castle saving Nightcrawler like 2 issues after the debut of Phoenix

Aren't leprechauns the first folks to reveal Wolverine's name?
I forget, does the Dracula/Storm story come first or the Mastermind/Jean stuff?
Dunno, this one was Mesmero turning the X-Men into carnival acts for a one-off
Jean becomes a New Yawkah lady who has a Hot Date with the boss and when Wolverine snaps out of it and tries to free her she says "I won't scream, I'll do whatever you want"

Claremont!
Listen he isn't perfect but he tried really hard.
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

Claremont did a lot of good, progressive stuff for the time
I highly doubt that's going to stick but it would have been a hell of a status quo change.
Yeah something is definitely gonna happen unless Hickman was really underselling how big the lies and misdirects were in the marketing
Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Monet, Archangel, Mystique and Nightcrawler all dead is a pretty gigantic culling and Hickman has talked about Scott in particular as a focus for his story

Is he trying to pull a Metal Gear Solid 2
Maybe! It would be pretty crazy but not impossible

It would also be dickish to people that ordered books based on solicitations

random guess based on something weird in the first issue, and weird vibes from X in the 3rd, I haven't read this one yet

(They needed a skinny little guy to fit inside.)
Ironically that's Toad, actually

My favorite item in this is Nightcrawler shouting, "WOLVERINE, SHUT UP!"
"Ride or Die" confirmed Dominic Toretto, as they took off to find the Dragon Balls in hopes of reviving their friend Sonic
Listen Revanche clearly puts up the exact same advanced stats at 3rd as Psylocke for half the money.
From what I have heard, it will not be the last

Also mind control really gets his rocks off
The Andrew Hussie of his time
