I'm still only like hallway through, but you could probably toss most of the sidequests. A few are interesting (like the paintings one). Even fewer have a reward I actually care about.

I'm general I'm kinda not impressed with games where sidequests and one time treasure chests on the map give healing items I can easily buy.

The side quests actually end up having a lot of very good rewards.

Unique skill seeds and some of the best weapons. They also have quite a few that unlock based on others so sometimes you have to go a few quests into the chain to get the goods.

  • Gnome-InterruptusGnome-Interruptus Registered User regular
Yeah it would be nice if all the side quests were available the first time you are in the town or immediately chain off each other from the same npc

The main thing with the postgame is how little there is to actually use those new abilities on. In that regard, the Trials remake did better, there was a whole long ass dungeon for playing with the 4th tier classes, and you could refight the boss under time constraints for bonus rewards.

I still fondly remember post game dungeon in Valkyrie Profile, that was exactly what I needed to flex my character's skills.

If I recall correctly, most of the cooler abilities also came with the 3rd tier classes as well, with the postgame being more about being handed absurdly broken generic chain abilities.

Yea like I actually didn't even bother to set up the cool custom classes here. Because it was like an hour to run through the whole post-game chapter on hard.

Plus not having my cool outfits was another tradeoff that didn't seem worth it.

Wasn't even worth the effort of delving into at that point sadly.

I'm still just barely at the
    fighting Benevodon
stage, because every time I unlock a new vessel I have to go back to all the zones and get their aeries and elementites, and also see if my new levels and abilities will let me finish off the remaining ruins nemeses, because guldurnit there's markers on my map and I gotta get rid of them.

    I have a problem.

Anyway, don't know anything about the custom classes but if it lets me mix and match passives (especially since once you unlock moves they just take up space in the list) and use weapons I like that'd be real nice for combining some of these really cool things on different tracks.

I wish I could make myself like the shield and lance (I pretty much hate it any game where it exists. Why use a lance on foot? If you're gonna give me a fuckoff huge weapon at least make it a sword or axe) since that's the first relic weapon I found and still the only one for Val so far.

I kind of hate when games lock at stuff that could have easily been in the main quest just to say they have post game content.

Is it normal for Careena to be behind on the items that add more ability slots? Everybody is at 4, except for Palamena who just got to 6, but Careena is still stuck at 2. I've scoured every map and as far as I can tell found every chest there is to be found.
edit: Except I think in the Mylos woods where there's that bit that unlocks from the light vessel, I forgot to go back there yet.

    Yo here's something weird.
There's that lesser shadow elemental aerie in the wind valley, that's built on a shrine/platform with two shadow elementite on the side walls. If you enter the aerie and exit it, then run down the stairs hugging the left wall, at around the mid point you'll clip slightly into the wall and pick up a grizzly syrup from somewhere.

Yea and here it actually has a pretty big impact on the main game which is a bit disappointing.

I was in the same position, then I went back into the temple where you unlock Varlav and found a chest I missed.

Then through a combination of grinding side quests and advancing the plot, Careena now has the highest

Hmm okay, yeah, I went there last night because it showed I had a chest still to unlock but I could not for the life of my find it. Wasn't tagged on the map or anything that I could find.

What Vessels do y’all like for who? I just got the final Vessel and I’m messing around with builds

    - It’s so hard for me to take Water off Val
    - I know people love Moon on Morley, understandably, but I’ve been trying Wood, gives him some range
    - Careena has been using Earth, but I’m undecided, summoner may be neat?
    - Palamena seems to have the most viable options? Was using Moon but trying Light

Val is almost always on Wind, since given that I'm pretty much always putting a saber on him, getting the attack buff from it is nice. And the wind vessel and break are pretty good, especially against piles of dudes. Though lately I'm running Light because fighting lots of dark dudes. Also has a great vessel effect against large groups, and Lance+shield is the relic weapon he gets. (At least available right now from the ruins? Presumably the other 7 exist somewhere)

Careena usually on water because I like her getting the buff version of her debuffs for free. Also relic spear.

Morley usually on Moon though I haven't brought him much lately.

Palamena I ran mostly water when I was still wandering around clearing new areas that I wasn't over leveled for for the mana refund after battle. Nowadays moon for the passive damage buff for the team.

Julei, should I be in a battle where I need his heals, usually whatever class has the boost against that enemy type.

I have Val on Dark, Palamena on Light, Morley on Moon, Julei on Wood, Careena on Water

    In the past I liked:

Val on Light, Palamena on Earth, Julei on Dark

but pretty much any combination will work, I was controlling Careena the whole run so I had her on water for the vessel spam

I had Val or Morley running straight all out dps, and then Palamena was always just nuking the whole field into orbit

but I liked Ramcoh (even though they didn't end up contributing much overall, just like having a little friend) and I was fine with spamming items instead of running Julei

There was a long stretch in the middle of the story that I didn't like Val so I just didn't have him in my party.

There is a button to switch between the level/floor/elevation on the map, should help find it (iirc its by the fire vessel rocket destination)

Val i like wind/water/wood depending on resistances and if I need aoe etc

Morely moon for crit damage and vessel fun

Careena wind/water though people also talk up her fire. Bring her for debuffs and buffs

Palameena is earth though I find she is overkill on standard exploration and a bit too squishy for bosses

    Julie I haven’t used yet

No, I spent like 2 minutes staring at the mapping and swapping floors and whatnot. And then wandered around the area including the rocket destination. Couldn't find it.

If you haven't walked to the area to map it, it won't show up on the map.

    Specific:
tatoh temple, first set of stairs to the left of the entrance. Will be a little section that floats by itself around 6 o clock on the map once you uncover it.

    I used:

    Val - wood
    Careena - light
    Julei- wind

At level 40 I finally figured out how to turn on sprint/run inside towns (I was too used to using dash/dodge to initiate it)

I wonder if with Ouka being shuttered immediately after release this is a dead game or if SE will find someone else to support it.
I have a whole list of weird bugs of and QoL things would be nice to address.

I beat this game. Despite some obvious flaws, I think the Trials remake and then this show a clear path forward for Mana. The story and VA was the best of any game they've done, Val & Co. are real characters rather than blank slates and barely detailed sketches. The combat feels pretty good, and I wouldn't want them to overcomplicate it and turn it into a Tales game. I think there should be a class with actual melee attacks as abilities. The class system is so close to something really interesting and satisfying. Some kind of limited mix-and-match before the endgame, and making classes more equal in their passives. The ability seeds are great, just need more variety and more unique effects. I rarely used the move-granting ones beyond the very early game because you quickly unlock more moves than you have space for anyways. Maybe some character-specific ones like one that buffs Morely's traps or Val's taunt/stun moves. Sidequests are a good add but fewer and better ones would be an improvement. More crossover usage of the elemental vessels' traversal abilities: I think Earth only got used in the Earth dungeon, and Fire only 1-2 times outside where you first get it.

Anyways, liked it quite a bit. Gonna let it sit for a bit then maybe go back for the postgame bits.

I did download an update on Xbox a few days ago which apparently contained some bug fixes, so Idk if that was left from the original devs or what

Game locked up for me twice last night in the same greater aerie. It was in a run I was likely to be successful in too. :(

I finally finished Visions of Mana yesterday and unlocked NG+

Realized I forgot to complete any of the greater airies. But I think I did complete all the side quests.
