Steam thread are there any under the radar JRPG types that you'd recommend?

Still think a good response to this is the two romancing saga games. 2 and 3 respectively.

I agree as long as that's the kind of JRPG experience they're going for. There so much breadth to the genre and so much of it is under the radar, it's hard to make an earnest recommendation without knowing more about what kind of game they are going for.

I'm looking for a narrative focused game (either world/story/plot) and I like the general gameplay feel (the regular power increases, usually systems to have to tease out strong combos or an optimal strategy), and generally good tunes.

I've played Beseria. It was a lot of fun, which was good because most other Tales games have left me unhappy.

The Romancing Saga games don't interest me much because SaGa games are generally too obtuse and I have had generally awful experiences with them and the stories are usually super super barebones (In essence, they feel incredibly random to me and that battles are just hoping that the enemy doesn't do bullshit moves too frequently. Your actual combat abilities are usually just "more damage" and "less damage." I have been thoroughly unimpressed towards every SaGa game I've played and seen. (Watched people play RS3, Saga Frontier 1, Unlimited SaGa, Scarlet Graces Ambitions, Octopath (it's a SaGa game let's be real, but a good one at least)).

I've played or at least looked into most main stream JRPGs.

Have you played Trails in the Sky?

I can't hype up Trails in the Sky enough. It's so good.

Yes. TITS are is very good

    Well hello there, Not Asuka.

I have it from a bundle, but never played it. Heard about the great and extensive translation, what's the gameplay like?

It's a strategic turn based combat, with a combination of basic attacks, special attacks (crafts), and magic (orbments). You've got a meter for your crafts that builds as you take and deal damage, or through items or ability effects or whatever, that you can then spend some of on crafts or you can save for your super craft. Your super craft is special because you can activate it whenever you want, during your turn or during the enemy turn, so it allows you to skip up the turn order (for which there is a gauge for on the side of the screen). There are positive or negative effects that take place on random specific turns in the turn order, so using your abilities tactically to manipulate the turn order can be important. Orbments also usually takes a couple turns to cast, and there are some attack effects that can delay someones turn in the order, giving you a spread of ways to manage it. I think this is something that gets fleshed out a bit more in the sequels, I can't remember if it's super important in the first game. Anyway, there's also an orbment system, which allows you to equip basically crystals with different effects between battles. Different orbments combine in different ways to give you access to different spells, which can be kind of confusing. I don't think it's especially well laid out how that stuff works, and I think they do a better job of it in later games, but it's still a pretty neat system.

Okay, I may have to actually try it.

    Koopah's Pre-10-Year-Extra-Life Marathon!!
    Tuesday, August 11th. Start-time @ ~10AM EST.

If you're a vet of Steam thread you know how this goes, but to any new family to the G&T Adventure Team since Fall of last year, I do a marathon stream every year for Extra-Life. This year will be my TENTH year doing it, and will probably be my last unless I keep being crazy cause 24 hours can be too much now a days. Extra-Life is an organization that works with streamers who would like to try to raise money for sick kids across North America. I personally always raise funds for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as they are my local go-to and I love them. All of the money raised this year will go towards CHOP's COVID-19 Impact Fund. (More Info here)

Due to my August vacation getting cancelled/shortened, I have some time next week for a pre-stream...uh, stream. So here's what I'm doing. I'll be doing a 12 hour (I'm calling it a half-marathon) stream between around 10AM to 10PM Eastern. I'm keeping the goal low ($500) to start since it's an impromptu go about, but I can't separate the mini-stream total from the 10-year total. I.E. I can't make it two separate events via Extra-Life, so as an FYI, anything raised next week will go towards my total for my 10th year marathon stream in November.

For this half-marathon, I'll be doing a simple incentive. One raffle giveaway of any Steam game of your choice equal to ~$60. You can enter this give-away by donating at least $5 between now and the end of the stream to enter. Be sure to include your PA forum name somewhere on the donation so I can track it better.

    Additional FAQ:
    • You're playing games for 12 hours straight? For the most part. I'll take bathroom breaks, and probably a 10 minute break every now and then to walk the dog, or to grab some food.
    • ...dog? Dog. Her name is Skye, and she's a 2yo pitbull. She may make an appearance every now and then for scritches.
    • Is my donation tax deductable? Yes actually! You can claim your donation on your taxes. Please see the Extra-Life page for more info.
    • What games you playing? Dota will almost certainly make an appearance cause I'm an addict. Been playing Monolith a lot since it's quick rounds. I'll also do some missions in Ghost of Tsushima. Maybe I'll do some Agglegos progress. I also might get Othercide and try that out on stream too. Pretty much whatever I'm in the mood for after that though.
    • Can I play with you? Generally I've found that it gets messy and confusing when trying to schedule what to play and when to play it with other people. So, thanks but no thanks.
    • How can I help? Share my link with friends and family! Toss $5 in and get in on the raffle! AFK with my stream in your browser so I get additional views and exposure! All of these are good things!

Thanks everyone, and I hope to see you on the 11th!

Boo for vacation canceling, but yay for half-marathon streaming for the children! Go @KoopahTroopah!!!
