There's a magic to how they are doing this six months after Animal Crossing's heyday, because it was popular with the kids back then and definitely won't read as dated now

Between that and the Cardi B interview it feels like they assume all they have to do to get The Youth Vote (read: anyone under 40) is to vaguely interact with things The Kids like and not propose any policies that will actively improve their lives

I realize this is the Democrats every election but boy is it exhausting every time

You can put that in too. Nintendo's not checking every single QR code, though if they find out via the report feature a ban is likely

"All of Bow's brothers, their names rhyme with Bow. So there's Oboe, who plays the oboe, Gogh, like Van Gogh and he's missing an ear," she said, adding that there was a joke about "Which one of Bow's brothers likes to till the fields?" to which the answer was, "Sow."

Seems like she fell for a racially charged joke without realizing it.

So sow (the verb), which sounds like sow (an adult female pig)?

Oooooooooh, I get it. If you check out the clip itself, she repeated a racist joke by another co-worker. She did not know it was racist at the time no doubt, which isn't much of an excuse hence the apology.

That bit I copy n' pasted was from the article, not the vid itself, so it's not completely word for word. What's sure is that it's a racist joke.

Trump is in Kenosha now. So the neighborhood where Blake was shot is holding an event to counter that, to keep the focus on Blake. Faith leaders also here. After some speeches, it's now a block party, with food, music, voter registration, and a Black Panther themed bounce house.

    Incredible.

While I appreciate the apology, can we take a moment to realize that in a nation where multiple Black farmer movements are fighting racism from agri-business and the USDA to continue farming, the automatic equating of “sow” - i.e. sowing seeds - with slavery is also pretty problematic?

    So, what is ra....I mean.....

    Hrm.

Okay, divorced from the context of the brothers O', I can see a character introducing himself as Sow who sows fields coming off as racist, barely, if I really stretch it.

But if this were beaten into the ground like bling bling, that Evanesence song, and other such bits of media, I could it see start to become racist and weaponized as a racist joke.

But right, here, with a character named bow who wields a bow, it sounds normal, in this context.

Yeah for me (UK RP/posh aussie) sew and sow (a field) are homonyms, sow (a pig) rhymes with bough* (tree).

Really? I've only ever heard it pronounced like sew (you reap what you sow?)

that's correct for sow as in planting seeds, sow as in a female pig is pronounced like ow! that hurt!

Whether the words rhyme or not I don't think pigs factor into it. It's a matter of the name of a character, who is a person of color, being equated to working in a field (i.e. a slave).

It might not seem like much, but several of her viewers found it insulting and she obviously agreed/understood their viewpoint, hence the apology.

That level of apology might seem unnecessary for what was essentially a throwaway remark, but considering the state of things currently I would much rather someone go out of their way to correct themselves than not.

Huh, so the joke wasnt the issue, but that it sat at an intersectionality crossroads. Interesting.

Oh, keeping with what the post said about black farmer representation, was watching American Heartland (graveyard shift, wasgonna go to bed) and they mentioned that an African American architech was behind a series of barns that came to define American farm life.

Damned if I can find a link to them.
