"The Super Switch" is a little too much mouthful. Switch Pro is fine and easy to say. Switch Plus or Switch Z or Switch R or whatever are all fine as long as it sticks to two syllables.

So my new game on the backlog I'm trying is X-Com 2.

I might have made a mistake.

I'm one mission in, and already I miss almost every shot, and I keep reloading earlier saves because a stupid move got my person killed. This game might be more frustration than its worth.

I save/load a lot because I play the games like a Puzzle I need to solve, figuring out a way to clear out the entire map without permanently losing anyone. I always play on permadeath mode, but always save and load the shit out of them until I solve the level in a way im happy with. Xcom and Fire Emblem are both like that.

I will never not cringe when someone pronounces it this way. What you got goin on that you don't have time to say "S-N-E-S" or "Super N-E-S" or "Super Nintendo"?

There's so many options that don't make you sound like you're sneering when you say it.

I know it's Nintendo, so they will do something that nobody expects....but what do we think the options are for the end of the month when 3D All-Stars will no longer be printed or available digitally? Individual titles released at $20 each? Just completely un-available so that next time they pull the same stunt people know they mean it?

I've got half of a game voucher sitting unused and while I will probably want it at some point I'm not itching to play it right now, so I'm kinda resenting the fact I need to pull the trigger this week if I want it.

The latter. Now that they know they can get away with it I fully expect the Nintendo Vault™ to become a regular thing.

The SNIS was just the SNES in New Zealand.

In my circle we always pronounced it Sness. Because we always pronounced it Ness. And y'know there's that one character so it's obviously at least obliquely Nintendo sanctioned.

I dunno. Everyone I knew growing up called it the Super Nintendo when speaking, and Nintendo for the original. I don't think NES and SNES came up at all until typing it online, and then in my head I pronounce each letter and have never made a word of them. I think in modern day, referring back to the Nintendo we now say N-E-S because it helps distinguish it from the company itself.

edit: language is weird and humans will do whatever they want and die on the hill that their way is the right way. :P

But NES and SNES were also contemporary uses, before the internet. Actually I had a Mario comic back in the day that had this ad in it:



It stuck in my mind so hard because it was the first time it occurred to me that you would say nezz or enn-ee-ess. I think the cadence of Beetlejuice implies enn-ee-ess.

I had a British friend growing up who pronounced it ness so I always assumed it was a British/European thing. He was ridiculed for it. We all just called it Nintendo.

The pre-internet/youtube world was weird (and objectively better).

I’ve referred to the SNES as every variant possible growing up. There was never a consensus on the pronunciation so every answer was accepted. It was beautiful.

Ok, so I don't think X-Com is going to be my jam. I don't enjoy it. It just makes me angry as I play. Oh well...I got it really cheap, so no skin off my nose.

So in order to fill the strategy itch I've had, instead I'm going to be playing Valkyria Chronicles.

I bounced off X-Com 2 HARD. But I spent hundreds in X-Com 1. Not sure why there was such a difference.

Based on what I've heard XCom would probably annoy the crap out of me after Mario + Rabbids.

We're almost certainly getting a Mario + Rabbids sequel, so I'll just wait for that.

I think I agree. I loved Mario + rabbids but man I did not enjoy any of my time with XCOM. I hope they make a sequel to Mario + rabbids and if so I will happily jump into that. 😋

Should a Mario + Rabbids sequel include the wider Rayman cast (Rayman, Globox, the barbarian princesses, the Teensies), or do we want to keep Rayman as far away from Rabbids as possible after the way they took over his series for a good few years?

I'm torn between wanting to keep Rayman its own thing, and wanting to see Rayman with a raygun.

Slightly off topic because it's not on Nintendo systems, but Gears Tactics is a pretty great XCOM style game if you're in the mood for such.

I love both XCOM and Mario+Rabbids.

XCOM 1 (modern XCOM 1) might feel more palatable than XCOM 2 which adds a lot of complication to the formula, new classes and powers and things...but that's not on Switch.

Love the idea of Wario, Waluigi, and Daisy, but give me Rayman, Jade (Beyond Good and Evil), and the Prince (Prince of Persia).

After this game explodes in sales, they finish the trilogy with Nintendo + Ubisoft: Ultimate Rabbid Kingdom Battle and make the Smash of X-Com tactics games.

Ubisoft doesn't want Jade in a game. They are busy making a sequel to Beyond Good and Evil that is a mature rated foulmouthed garbage live service prequel that tries to pretend Jade never existed.
