HDR/G-sync won't turn on [solved]

I just picked up a LGEUSA 27" IPS 27GP850-B MONIT/G (sorry, the full name on the receipt)

The panel works great, but I can't seem to get G-sync or HDR to work. The option for G-sync doesn't appear and in windows HDR says it isn't supported.
I've hit google and tried a ton of things the last couple hours including:
Rolling back drivers, upgrading them.
Not installing physx (weird)
It's the only monitor hooked up.
Tried toggling vsync in nvidia control panel (weird but suggested)
Tried installing the monitor driver
Done lots of reboots between as well.
I can switch right back over to my 4k gsync panel and the option immediately appears and turns on (no resets or anything). I've tried the same cable, I've tried the cable that came with the monitor (both DP, but they don't say which revision, but works on the 4k/60hz gsync panel)

I switched the adaptive sync option in the panel to extended, but also went back and tried basic.
Motion blur is off (according to the manual it doesnt work with gsync, and it is blurred out)

I have a 980/4790k. And again I can switch back to my old panel and use gsync no problem. The panel definitely supports it, its on the box and there's a sticker on the panel itself.

Mmmm... Cocks... on

Nvidia made a change a couple years ago to allow panels that support Freesync to use VRR for 10 series and above only. That monitor supports both - I would check to see if the monitor has an explicit setting for enabling Gsync. It might be defaulting to Freesync mode which a 980 definitely won’t support.

Doesn't seem to be. There's only one mention of gsync in the manual that just mentions needing a supporting video card. There's an adaptive sync section for off, basic, or extended. I've tried them all with resets between them.

Actually... that monitor won't work with your GPU. It is listed as GSync Compatible, which means it doesn't have the Nvidia hardware installed and instead uses VESA AdaptiveSync (which is what FreeSync uses)

You will need a 10 series or above GPU to make it work with Gsync.

I see. With gsync plastered all over the box I never even thought twice.
Appreciate the help. I've been dying for a new GPU but.. well.. you all know how it's been.
