lel I don't think my company gives out bonuses

They don't offer monetary compensation for the patent pipeline? whaaaaat?

i would assume these days companies all do the "we own everything you do on company time" thing

My company is hueg so it's not like they need the new patents. They have eleventy billion already.

i feel like no company is worried about holding too many patents

@SummaryJudgment Italian cruisers seem interesting with their SAP ammo - from what I've read it can't citadel, but it's more reliable damage at non-broadside angles than plain AP.

I'm only at tier 4 with them though and so far they have godawful traverse and reload.

Patents make investors happy, it's a slide our CEO loves to stick at the front

25 patents filed during tenure gets you more recognition than just about anything you could do. Save the company $1bn? Whatever man.

Sure but they're gonna get some amount of new patents without needing to tie bonuses to the system.

Worst case if they know some project should be generating patents and it isn't they'll just send a team around to examine the work and force the applications.

I don't think I've seen a sentence break my brain that much in a long while.

"Italian Crusiers" - oh, like cruise ships?

    "Ammo" oh, ships.

"SAP" -- wait, what does software have to do this?

"Can't citadel" Oh, maybe talking about wargames and citadel paints. Wait... what?

"Reliable damage" ... definitely not paints, but...

"I'm only at Tier 4" Ohh, okay, this is some kind of 4x videogame. Maybe? I don't know.

    It's World of Warships.

The nation's different ship lines have some perk that distinguishes them - Italians get SAP, semi-armor piercing ammo, instead of high-explosive ammo.

Citadel = the juicy spot for tons of damage on a good broadside so you can penetrate the citadel armor.

Being huge isn't a guarantee though since patents expire. Seems like they've successfully tied it to the compensation review culture which is a bummer in my opinion.

I haven't finished one of my action items for an upcoming 1-on-1, so I'm finishing that real quick. Then I get a message on Outlook that says the 1-on-1 is postponed. YES! *procrastinates more*

I'm using the time to argue with an acquaintance via e-mail on why the paper he sent me about Lysine supplementation to treat COVID-19 is bullshit. He responded to me pointing out red flags by yelling about the medical/pharmaceutical complex (uh oh... btw, the paper he sent me was written solely by authors who work for the same biochem company) and fucking linking me to a YouTube video of Rupert Sheldrake giving a TED talk (Sheldrake is a pseudoscientific grifter who studies "morphic fields" and psychic power).

    I'm gonna have words.

I have this channel on my cubicle that looks like it would support a ton of weight. It would be awesome if I could get monitor arms that mounted to this hardware. but basic amazon searches aren't turning up anything.
