One Year In, We are Still Playing [Genshin Impact]
Feels like Keqing is getting a lot of screen time recently. That plus the new costume makes me believe the rumors of a new set to try to fix her a bit more.
Otherwise it feels sort of weird to put so much attention on the worst 5-star. I really hope so, since even with her being weak I'm always tempted to try to make her work again.
She's not the worst 5-star, though she's down on that list. But she's also the og waifu for a lot of folks, and her moves are cool as hell. I don't know that anyone leaked anything about the new set but I heard that was a thing.

The only other competition is Qiqi, who can make you immortal and is pretty decent with the clam set.
Keqing does damage worse than a lot of 4-stars and needs to be stationary against an enemy that can't be knocked back to do that much. And tends to end up in danger from a lack of stamina. I mained her from pretty early on until I got Eula and it was basically an exercise in stubbornness because I liked her.
Ugh. The event boss is no fun, too much time invulnerable. Also, you have to max out clears to get Ninguang's outfit from the event, which is annoying.
Keqing (from what i understand) is super popular in China. She is the only og 5* to get her own banner for a reason, even if it performed poorly. They seem to be trying to find ways to capitalize on her popularity, they just haven’t been successful yet I guess

I almost soloed Childe as Diona in co-op, the rest of my team was melee DPS and I didn't want them getting overloaded constantly by using my Bennet. Was just spamming my shield (I don't have C2 so just my shield) and my heals as much as I could. Absolutely bossed the first 2 phases. Third phase rolls around, rest of the team gets wiped with Childe at 25% health remaining. I'm pew-pewing for 2-300 damage a shot plus maybe like 5k when my shield hits. Got him to a sliver of health after what felt like a week, with my team cheering me on. Then he goes to the sky, comes down, and one-shots me through my shield. So close!
Next attempt two of the others change to their "main" DPS characters and we completely run him over.
I like keqing's playstyle and her aesthetic. I can't speak to how powerful she is relative to other 5* but I never understood the seemingly obvious disdain for her.

She's a dps who does low dps and doesn't bring any additional utility to a team with an element that's not really needed for resonance or reactions. If she was a 4* that wouldn't be a big deal but as a 5* getting her instead of whatever else you really wanted can really sting.
And if you are into her playstyle and aesthetic it can be frustrating to know you could get far more damage with far less investment and easier gameplay with certain 4-stars, much less other 5-stars.
Saying loudly 'hey this popular character SUCKS' wherever you can is about the only thing you can do that might conceivably convince them to add a set to fix her.
edit: For bonus irony, most of the in-depth theorycrafting for Genshin ended up centering around the Keqing Mains discord, so when the numbercrunchers' favorite has bad numbers...
Accepting that Keqing is not very good is the first step towards enjoying to use her. There are some situations where she can do some serious work, and it feels good to use her in those cases because of the stigma about her.
I do agree though that she's probably just the worst 5* now. Qiqi isn't exactly amazing, but the clam artifact set combined with some events and abyss rotations that require healing have gone a long way toward make her a good choice.

Keqing with Mona can put in some serious work against groups of mobs. They're fun together.
So if I want to build Mona, what’s her best option? Dps, support? I think I’ve only ever played as her in those challenge events but never really understood what she brought to the table.
(I think more realistically, that come February 18th, I’m going to take a long ass break and maybe this is all academic.)

Mona is a burst support, with a skill that in theory helps group baddies for you. Emblem or Noblesse / Heart, and someone pyro on the team to set / proc vaporizes (or mass electrocharged) is the core approach. There's a solid bubble-maximization guide over in KQM.

Would Benny (c4) or Xiangling (c6) be the best option for her? For vaporize.

Bennett burst -> Mona Burst is evidently the preferred / foolproof method for the wombo.
Xiangling is probably better if you're attacking with Mona though.

i mean u can beat all the contents ass with keqing as ur main assbeater so its sort of academic if shes some % of the arbitrary joke numbers u get from amped teams
shes got lots of crit multi, give her the usual bennett nonsense and its gonna be a numbers fiesta
it would be nice if they lowered the base stat differences a bit between characters (and sometimes weapons, even of the same tier) - kits, mechanics and elements are so important that they could easily buff some weaker characters base atk without risking anything

The only issue with Bennett/Keqing is that you and up with enemies being bounced out of your ult from overcharge. I feel like Yunjin might have been a slight buff to Keqing in that respect at least.

Trying to decide who to get with the free 4-star.
Don’t have Yun Jin, so that’s an obvious choice. Not really sure where to use her, though. My “Oops, all Geo” team would be Noelle, Ning, Yun Jin, Zhongli. I think they would be well-shielded.
And I just pulled a Favonius Lance. But at the moment, I think I’m good with polearms
Rosaria—Dragonspine Spear
Zhongli—Deathmatch
Hu Tao—Dragon’s Bane
Xiangling—Prototype Starglitter
Thoma—well, he’s holding an R5 Black Tassel, but he doesn’t really get to use it, like, ever.
Maybe I should just get Yun Jin for free and then give her the Lance.

I picked Yun Jin. I would have done it anyway since I want to have access to all the 4*s, but I'm already getting some good use out of her. She's decently good for anyone who does any normal attacks in their rotation (Hu Tao, Xiao), solid for Noelle (not incredible only because Noelle's damage per hit is so high that adding a flat amount on top is not impressive, but still a noticeable damage boost), good for Yoimiya. Probably Razor, too? She certainly does like the Lance, although personally I have Zhongli hogging it.

Bennet/Mona is purely for the big meme vaporize damage
I think the Freeze Mona setup is more friendly to actually utilize (Freeze essentially extends the Omen debuff)
I'd probably go for Yun Jin too, just to have her. Unless you're close to a really nice constellation on one of the other ones. Ning c1?
I think Yun Jin is more or less a dud, though, atm.
Like if I'm running Yoimiya it's gonna be Bennett, Zhongli and either Raiden or Fischl. There is no scenario where Yun Jin is practically better than any of those. I can dump Fischl and do 27k hits instead of 25k on Yoimiya or whatever, but that doesn't compare in the slightest.
(But it doesn't matter regardless, you can play most anything and be fine, so if Yun Jin is fun or fits in with an idea, that's the only important thing)

If I were you I'd get either Xiangling C4 or Xingqiu C1, depending which of the two you use more. Ningguang C2 and Yanfei C1 are also decent if you use those a lot. Yun Jin isn't especially powerful.

I finished out Chongyun with the party 4* so I can do big meme damage with Bennett and Shenhe. If I ever figure out the sequencing that'll make that work, anyway.
I main Diluc and Eula, big numbers are sorta my thing!
I only have enough starglitter to get only one of the Beidou or Noelle buys. That would give me Noelle c4 or Beidou c1. But I could also parlay the “free liyue 4 star” into a Beidou c1 or c2.

Looking more and more likely that I won't get Zhongli after burning through the Lantern Rite fates and primos and the monthly store fates, though I'll keep rolling until his banner is up I guess. He'd be a bigger help for any of my teams than Yae Miko would, though I tend to be a fan of turret characters, which Yae seems to be. I also won the last 50/50 for Ganyu so even if I get a 5* on Zhongli's banner I might get Diluc C2 instead.
My word though is Ganyu incredible. It's such a nice relief being able to output constant damage, as opposed to Eula where missing her sword drop at the end of her burst makes a big sad fart sound. I can't wait until I've built her up enough to take on the world bosses, I can't wait to show the damn Oceanid who's boss.

Oceanid just breaks with Ganyu. Nothing can attack, everything is frozen.. just good fun. It would be boring if it wasn't so satisfying.
imagine if instead of summoning swords xingqiu summoned tiny flying crabs
@surrealitycheck I am extremely disappointed we haven't seen screenshots of your teapot since they started allowing us to catch crabs (and other wildlife, but let's be serious we know crabs are the best). I have all these expectations of crab cities and crabs sitting on chairs and the crab+Amber breakfast nook. Pls share!
