The Holiday Lexx Thread

KrathoonKrathoon Registered User regular
Here is a thread dedicated to the funny, weird, and perverted show called Lexx.
Feel free to talk about the episodes that stood out the most for you.
Mine was the one where the resident assassin killed a bunch of teenagers.

The Tim Curry episode was also good.

The plot line with the Mantrid drones was really good, and always sticks in my mind.

One of the best on-screen depictions, of a runaway Von Neumann universal constructor/probe cascade scenario, that I've seen realised in television sci-fi, IMO. Seeing the stars in the sky, just blink out of existence, one by one...

    I never watched Lexx.

But it always got the impression it was like a knockoff Farscape.

    1. Lexx came out in 1997, Farscape came out in 1999. Although I do agree Farscape was a better show.

    2. My favourite episode is "Lafftrak". The opening sequence is solid gold.

Lexx was before Farscape, if anything Farscape used a similar premise of Lexx (I recall Farscape doing something very similar to the ending of Lexx, when the older living ship died but gave birth to a new one)

I thought Lexx was the CW show with the hot alien dude?

For some reason I think he didn't have a bellybutton?

"Red Dwarf run through a porn filter" feels like a pretty accurate description of it, IMO.

I was apparently thinking of Kyle XY.

I have not seen either show.

Its like a porno where they're all super horny but the running gag is they never get to have sex

Lexx predating Farscape is wild. I never really gave it any attention until both were off the air for several years.

Honestly, I think the big difference between Farscape and Lexx (aside from the huge difference in production values) is that Farscape is a sweeping story about love and hope and despair and the human spirit triumphing against impossible odds... and Lexx is a story about what humans would probably actually do if we ever got to space.

There was that disturbing episode with the tv planet.

The two versions of Zev were good. I did like the original the most.

Lexx is an.. acquired taste. A bizarre, off kilter space opera that never once took itself too seriously. Or at all seriously.

I always enjoyed the character of Kai, and the brunnen-g song absolutely rips. The musical episode is definitely the best one of the series. I enjoyed it when it was more about bizarre space stuff in the earlier seasons than the later ones where they were stuck around the same set of planets. That said having a season set around
a pair of twin planets that turn out to literally be heaven and hell
was a cool concept at least.

There's definitely lots of fun to be had, and it's one of the more blatantly horny shows I've ever seen. It is VERY weird though.

Lexx had a lot of episodes that were damn good scifi and would have worked even if you got rid of all the horniness. I think that's why the show manages to still, sorta, hold up on rewatch; it wasn't just Skinimax in space, it actually had some good writing going on.

That first season was some quality grimdark.

Shut up, Mr. Burton! You were not brought upon this world to get it!

Yeah, I probably haven't seen it on this side of the year 2000. Should maybe watch that and Farscape again some time.

I never watched it but I watched a lot of TV at the time so I definitely saw adds for it. But it seems my brain has confused itself cause I read this whole thread thinking 'Wasn't that the one with Gina Torres?"

Turns out, no, that was Cleopatra 2525, which was also a syndicated space show about hot people that I never watched but saw tons of adds for.
