I have double-hung windows from around 2015.

There is a huge draft coming from the side rails (I don’t know a better term for this area.) See area circled below.

Question: how do I weatherproof this to stop the draft? I’m not exactly sure where the air is coming from. Do I need to replace the weatherstripping at the bottom of the bottom window? Do I need weatherstripping somewhere on the sides of the window? I’m having a hard time finding anything online regarding a draft through this particular spot.

I don't know the answer to your problem, but if you want to definitively locate the leak, then mix some dish soap with water, then brush some on the affected area. The leakage should show up as bubbles.

Worst case it might not be installed correctly and is missing the sealing tapes?

there shouldn't be a leak there at all

    is the outside caulked properly?

    is the outside caulked properly?

Good question. What part of the outside? I can’t see much around the frame and there’s siding all around that’s obstructing a closer inspection. But I will investigate…

Where do the sealing tapes go? Would they be visible without opening up anything?
