Well I finished the seven Nopon quest
That was a bit underwhelming
The weapons were "strengthened" which seems to just mean new graphics?
At least that's what it said online (I had to lookup where that stupid cooking quest Nopon was.. Also how to get fixifixi to talk to me)
Also I think I'm at the end. Was tempted to do more questing but pokemon is out soon, I gotta keep going I just
beat N and saved Melia.. I assume the final boss is next based on how stuff seemed to be setting up.

You get significant stat buffs using the original class on that character too. So Noah becomes a better Swordfighter, Mio a better Zephyr, etc. It's not enough to make a mediocre class better than other options, but if you were going to use the class anyway...

Buckle up, you've got still too much dungeon to still go through... and one or two mini-bosses, and then the final boss itself is a long slog.

What that quest does AFAIK:
Your chain attacks proc their additional effects (ignore defense, etc) 100% of the time instead of 90%.

That stuff levels up throughout the game. Not sure if its level or story progression based but I sure had 100% before seeking out the weapon upgrades.

Level based. It goes down when I downlevel everyone for CP farming in the final dungeon. (It's really hard to beat the giant elites right at the end giving a couple thousand for an overkill)
As mentioned above, it gives them all a stat boost when using their original class. Which is... questionable for Taion and Lanz, but everyone else's starting class is good, so why not have them be better at it.

Ok, that's better than what the thing I read said so that makes it a little more worth it.
I had enough metal thingies to upgrade everyone except Lanz.. not sure where I'll get the rest from, other than I've seen a couple in Origin so far. Wish there was some way to track them because who knows what the hell ones I've picked up all over the place. I've been trying to get every one I find but I'm sure I missed a couple in various places - not to mention post game areas with like level 90 monsters that I've only half-explored
Also side note, really wish there was an easy way to tell where to get materials for gem crafting. I have so many I can't upgrade because I'm missing like literally one thing and while sometimes it has the monster name in the name of the item, that doesn't tell me where the heck that monster IS. Doesn't help that I feel like this game in particular introduced a lot of "similar but not the same" monsters, like if you're talking real animals it would be like an Elk vs a Deer. Not the same but they look so similar, and when you add on the "monster traits" and funky xenoblade names it gets even more muddy :P
I suppose I should just google the stuff but that's no fun Do have to say, Xenoblade games have always been ones where I wish they made physical guides. I would buy those for sure. Just having all the little misc shit in tables and stuff would be so helpful. I still look up like, missable/best quest outcome/etc guides when I play XC1.
I started the Colony 30 material quest and what a massive pain in the ass. I think it'll be best to just check back in every 4-6 hours to see if I have anything to turn in. Trying to farm specific things looks to be a great way of burning myself out on the game.

Every Unique monster is guaranteed to drop one on first kill. So something you can work on while filling out your soulhacks. Otherwise you'd be doing map completion making sure to pick up every mega shiny gleam on the ground.
You *can* farm them from superbosses but the drop rate seems low.

It seemed like to me that there are a lot of extra shards out there. Even when I fully upgraded everyone, I was still finding shards in the world and still had a decent amount of UM's unfought

Yeah that doesn't surprise me. Like I said, I was able to upgrade everyone except Lanz which kind of shocked me. Even Lanz I don't think was missing too many, just a couple specific kinds (which honestly I may have gotten at Origin, I haven't gone back to look what he needed). I've been pretty much picking them up whenever I see one so I had a lot of them when that quest finished.
Side note - very disappointed in Taion's. I thought it might change the way the Mondo look but it just changes the little device on his arm that you can't even see -_-
Finally wrapped XC3 up (and then caught up on this thread from twenty or so pages ago).
Cast was great, though I think narratively we took too long getting to know Mio and Senna. Eunie's the best, which I had inklings of early on but that opinion solidified with her response to Colony 11.
I think I'd place it third of the XC games - it has none of the lows of XC2 but the highs didn't click with me as much, so XC2 edges it for me.
(One funny thing that happened to me in the final battle was that one sequence apparently had a bunch of cutscenes set to trigger as the opponent's health decreased, and I managed to just execute a perfect Chain Attack taking said health from around three quarters full to zero. So I ended up getting a bunch of awkward back-to-back-to-back switching between them and "combat".)
The YouTube suggestion algorithm did something good for once, and recommended me this hour and a half deep dive into the best Xenoblade 3 music from a man with a delightful French-Canadian accent.
XC3's biggest crime is how much the music gets interrupted by the menu. There should have been an option to disable the relentlessly generic menu music so it's not interrupting the rest of the world.

Yeah... he makes repeated jokes in the video with that (and the Chain Attack music) cutting in to things.
The fact that every zone has night music and the fast travel defaults to day also has to be up there.

Finally beat the game
First off, fuck that final boss and his lack of checkpoints. I died on the second phase with 10% of his hp left because he annihilated both my healers (still very much hate that aspect that makes the healers so important). Then had to re-do the entire tedious ass first phase where you basically hit him for 1 damage or whatever for like fifteen minutes straight before the game let's you actually win. Oh and the mid fight cutscenes are unskippable -_-
Second time around I put that accessory on Lanz that lets non healers rez and it went fine. Very cool fight, at least after the first phase which sucked ass.
Ending was sad. Got spoiled on Nia's photo sadly but did not have context for it at least. At least Poppi was a surprise
Really curious what the dlc is now.
Also I guess everything that happened kind of got erased? Not sure why Taion is giving Eunie tea books in that case :P
Do I need to do new game+ to get the post game content? I know XC2 had some like that.
Oh also I'm pretty sure my fight with X bugged out. I beat her with a chain attack and then she just shouted she didn't want to die as she sat there with motes coming off and not disappearing. Since Y disappeared immediately I assume that's what was supposed to happen. Even died to a regular enemy (was trying to just run passed) and it gave me a "retry" option like the boss fight wasn't over and warped me back to her room (she was still dead thank God)

And yes, the farewell scene is very odd and I'm still not sure what's going on with all that.

So I was looking on YouTube for ending explained videos and found this one (which I'll spoiler just in case even though the thumbnail isn't a spoiler or anything)
This video is actually extremely good and I feel like I understand the ending a lot more now and in fact may understand what the DLC is going to be now (based on the teaser image they originally showed)
Basically that video explains how exactly the timeline works here and suggests that when the universes reset, all the cast from XC1 and XC2 are alive again (as evidenced by Nia's picture and the fact Mio is her daughter... That picture was probably only taken ~10 or so years before the start/end of the game).
So with that being the case, I'm wondering if the DLC is going to be Noah (after having aged back up to his XC3 age) finding a way to connect the two worlds, maybe with the help of Shulk and Rex as their swords were shown in the teaser. That's just my theory but it makes sense to me now that I understand things a bit better.
The fact that every zone has night music and the fast travel defaults to day also has to be up there.
I legit feel bad for the person who did the Fort O'Virbus night music because this makes it so easy to miss. And even if you do happen to be there at night the track kicks off 2 minutes in so chances are good you've left by then.

Luxin has the best argument I've seen for something different but... my money is still on the Founders for DLC. Building those statutes and then hiding two of them behind rex/shulk just seems far too intentional, and they even drop the obvious story arc about the group basically forming when the first city is trashed, and breaking up after they kick N's ass somehow. You're also super constrained for re-using zones without setting things in Aionios although he came up with one of the very few alternatives to get around that, but leaning on the final zone as he suggests doesn't feel like something they would do to me. Its a rather special (and monotonous and linear) place to be using again.
Whatever it is I think he's taking the swords a bit too literally. I think the minimum they mean is just that the legacy of all three protagonists is involved, or more broadly, that this is going to tie XC1/2 more strongly to 3. In the Founder's case that would be Rex and Shulk's mentees (Cassini and Reid) and Noah's descendants (Vandham and Doyle). All three sword wielders would probably get flashbacks rather than being present in the main playable story. And a prologue or other details will help fill in more of the early days of Aionios and how things got the way they are.
I do know the point about XC3 "pointing to the series future" somehow but, when you free Melia she literally calls the city folk "lives of the future," i.e. the proper time for them to live is when 1/2's worlds fully combine correctly. Anything they do with the CIty then anywhere in the timeline is capable of pointing towards the distant future of the two worlds.

Oh did he do a video specifically on the DLC? I only watched the one I linked so far. The DLC thing is just my speculation, which it sounds like might match his
I mean, you might be right, but Torna did create an entirely new environment for that DLC. So I wouldn't say they are constrained to re-use zones (zone assets maybe, but that's easy enough to do since all the zones are just combos of the two worlds anyways).
I'll also say, it seems the ending is pretty divisive. I saw a few people saying they didn't like it, "everything I did didn't matter" (which isn't true but I can understand why they'd think that), etc. Setting the DLC after the ending could help to clarify a lot of that.
But who knows. A prequel would be playable without spoiling the main game, like Torna (kinda) was. I guess we'll see. Do wonder when they'll show something.
Oops yeah, I forgot this is a separate video! Here's nearly an hour of Luxin speculating on the DLC story expansion. (endgame spoilers obv.) He covers both prequel and sequel angles, though personally arguing for the sequel side.
The prior video is kind of insufficient to talk DLC because there Luxin's talking about a happy ending off-screen. That may be in the cards but you need some kind of real conflict for the players to fight through, which is trickier to do outside of Aionios, but he does propose some ideas in this video.
They will most likely use one of the flute songs for the live music game representation but I would love to see Moebius Battle going hard live.
Yeah if they do a live performance it'll be a flute tune, and I think pretty much every one who has played to chapter 6 can probably guess which one it's going to be.
XC3's soundtrack, while not my favorite in the series, does this...thing.
They did it some in 2, but with 3 they super did it.
It's where they almost over use an important theme, to the point it's actually noticable. And you start to think "oh, this again? A bit much don't you think?". And then they have short bits every time you interact with what would otherwise be a random object in the field to check off the list.
And sometimes it does it a little different and it's noticable. "Oh, they're playing together this time when I interacted with the thing".
Right when you think "ok, enough with this leitmotif, we get it, flutes." There will be a scene where it's not that tune until suddenly it is, and something about having heard it so many times makes it hot harder. And then they do it again and somehow instead of feeling repetitive it just enhances every scene it is used for and then they use it in slightly different keys to represent completely different emotions.
And then , like a cat finally going in for the kill after having toyed with their prey for hours, they use the theme again and it destroys you.
It's actually amazing.
It's especially funny to me because my very favorite type of humor, the kind that will work on me every damn time, is the joke that goes from being funny, and then they keep doing it till it's annoying, and then have the guts to keep doing it until it's suddenly hilarious. Monty Python were masters of this.
XC3 is like that, but with music and instead of hilarious it's devastating in a way that you want more of.
XC2 toyed with it, and did it to good effect, and I remember noting it at the time that they got me with it. And then XC3 just ran away with it. And the bastards even
did it with XC2s theme
like Usain Bolt slowing down at the finish line just because he can.

I had the exact same thing happen with the last X fight. I was expecting the same thing to then happen with Y and then to have a combined, interlink fight with them both. Instead, they were both just speed bumps.
For as good as the game was, the villains might as well have been identical clones of each other. The only real exceptions were M, N, and J.
X and Y had their moments in the side stories and should have died there. I know X does more things in chapter 5 so just move Eunies side story to after that.

This video is actually extremely good and I feel like I understand the ending a lot more now and in fact may understand what the DLC is going to be now (based on the teaser image they originally showed)
I legit feel bad for the person who did the Fort O'Virbus night music because this makes it so easy to miss. And even if you do happen to be there at night the track kicks off 2 minutes in so chances are good you've left by then.

Please no prequel DLC. Please please please.
I'd be ok with prequel DLC but I'd much rather have sequel DLC

We know this is between Elden Ring and God of War but, still a huge recognition and hopefully a sales boost!
But XB3 was deffo my personal fav game of the year(maybe ever..) so I'm happy to see it get the nomination if nothing else!
Yeah if they do a live performance it'll be a flute tune, and I think pretty much every one who has played to chapter 6 can probably guess which one it's going to be.

But yeah, it's gonna be the main flute theme of the game. Hundo percent.
But the keves castle night time theme(yes its different at night! ) was also one of my fav town songs because it just has such a cool vibe.
And the bastards even
Magnificent assholes.

For as good as the game was, the villains might as well have been identical clones of each other. The only real exceptions were M, N, and J.
