Claudio is absolutely winning that title from Gresham, and, even as someone who adores Claudio Castagnoli (he is literally the reason I got into wrestling, first from him doing ridiculous strongman shit on WWE Main Event, then seeing videos of old Claudio/Sara Del Rey matches on YouTube), that is... the most Tony Khan decision they could make.
At the SDCC panel Bryan announced its him vs Garcia on Dynamite

Between the big arena and the way Tony's guys are going over I just get this awful tinge of WWECW. Like hey, remember, that didn't start out awful either.
I do think they can pull off this re-brand though. They seem to have some understanding of what made ROH influential.

To a certain extent, but what RoH was when it died was a pale shell of what RoH is supposed to be.
Time to watch these homophobic chicken-fuckers have a great match.
They're good but they're also good in the way that the guy in a backyard wrestling fed who doesn't wash and no-sells legit chairshots to the head is good.

Its like my second favorite way for wrestlers to be good though.
Belly to back off the top through a table on the floor was nuts.
Yeah that was one of those things where you think "well in an actual fight you wouldn't drop somebody back into the ring when there's all that concrete an- OH. NO. They did it."
That tag main event was very good, but it really felt like that was the only match TK had confidence in delivering and everything else was really short.
I'd have not had the tag match on the preshow, put the six man title match there and let The world and pure title matches have more time, especially the world title match with Gresham losing it. That match had nowhere near the epic feel of Gresham defending it against Lethal at Final Battle.
Peter Pan main event has been obvious but is now officially confirmed to be Endo challenging King of DDT winner and current KO-D Openweight Champion Higuchi for the title he had to vacate last month, as Endo continues his quest to rid himself of the shame he experienced getting ko'd at CyberFight Festival.
Also fucked up that we're calling this Claudio's first world title. Does the PWG World Title mean nothing to you people?
Calling something that takes place entirely within one room in California 'world' might be the most Californian thing I've ever heard.

Fightful Select has learned that former ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham asked for his release Saturday ahead of the ROH Death Before Dishonor show that saw him lose the championship. We're told that there was a lack of communication between the company and Gresham leading up to the weekend, and Gresham was said to have felt disrespected by this. Among other things, we learned that the lack of time for the world title match was a tipping point as well.
We're told that Gresham finally procured a meeting with Tony Khan before the show, he was said to have communicated the frustration that led to him "cussing out" Khan. Several talent confirmed this to Fightful following the ROH Death Before Dishonor show.
Gresham had interest from Japan, IMPACT and others before re-signing with ROH/AEW. Gresham told Fightful late last year that he was going to stick things out and see where the ROH brand landed, as he felt a sense of loyalty and pride in continuing it.
Fightful has reached out to Khan and Gresham for responses, and we're told from Gresham's side of things that as of this moment, Gresham is "done with wrestling for the foreseeable future after this month." We were also told that Gresham came out without his regular entrance gear because he wanted to be himself and see everything clearly for what would possibly be his last match.
I think Gresham is a great talent but I think he has a ceiling at least in his current incarnation but he is also unfortunately thinned skinned and welp sounds like kind of a diva, and to be blunt the ROH WH title doesn't really mean anything at the moment. Gresham was just the last guy to get it before the promotion shutdown he hasnt had a title reign and I think a reset works especially with someone with a name and history with the promotion like Claudio.
Now him hanging up his boots for the time being might be a good thing for him, Terminus seemed to flop out of the gate and maybe he needs to redebut in like 6 months with a new outlook.
Communication issues sound like a constant problem in AEW cause Tony has spread himself way to thin and he needs a management team to help with stuff.

I watch too much backyard wrestling on youtube.

oh no i bailed
both the briscoes and ftr bore me
FTR has become much better since they stopped hating flips and became faces, but fair enough.
It was the only selling point of the last RoH show and until everybody raved about it I didn't care.

LOL AEW fans want nothing to do with these crusty homophobes.

I like FTR well enough but they are definitely missing a hook for me aside from that at least one is a Good Dad and they like synth music

Kazusada Higuchi & Naomi Yoshimura powered their way through ASUKA & MAO to become the new KO-D Tag Team Champions!
Also thank goodness Tetsuya Endo is back, it was a long month without this showoff around.
