I've seen the video showing what happens if it gets pushed closer and that seems to be all upsides. As in the oceans rising up the sides of the mountains and drowning everything else.
What if the moon was actually a hollow superstructure with a tiny star and robot aliens inside of it though
Still gonna cause the global flood as it gets closer to Earth until the gravitational forces cause it to crumble into pieces long before it ever reaches the planet. After that it's even odds between it coalescing into a stable ring around the planet or finishing off whatever is left alive as fireballs rain down around the world.

I’d take those odds
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust

According to SEVENEVES is does the latter in establishing the former.
White-collar workers have 250% more meetings a day since the pandemic started, forcing them to log back in before bed to do their actual work. "The consequence of inflexible managers filling the day with so many meetings that we have to add a 'worknight' to do our job"
Microsoft researchers found white-collar workers are adding a 9pm shift to their workday.
I wrote about why:
- your entire day is filled with online meetings
- flexible work empowers night owls
- more global teams
- WFH + parenting = "triple peak" day
I was being pretty productive at work today considering it's a monday, but then we had a fire drill and I lost all energy to get stuff done the last two and a half hours.

It was so glorious for the first few months of the pandemic when my usual heavy meeting schedulers didn't know how to adjust, so most of our meetings were canceled while we shifted the campus.

The like one good thing about my manager is that they unequivocally tell people to turn off once it hits 5pm. Some people have worked later in the day just cause they can, but I never have and never will.
Managers desperately trying to justify their continued employment/existence.
i'll have you know its a very important role
listening to an unreasonable property owner claim damage that probably never happened, tell them that i'm very concerned and will talk to everyone involved
and then just tell the supervisor of the project "this is what they're claiming, make sure our ass is covered but no action required"
how else will that property owner feel assured that their complaint is getting the personal attention of a *manager*

You know, I often think about Dan Olson's comments on how the education system formed as a way to create middle management and accountants (from the Comfortably Doug video). I'd really like to look more into that, because there are many times I wonder why we have the business structures that we do these days.

This is actually true. Acclaimed sketch comedy and internet streaming empire network Loading Ready Run have a space station there. It's where they're headquartered, in their Orbiting Underground Moonbase.

I'm gonna say it's specifically middle managers. Because my direct manager not only actually helps me with my job, but he's also reduced the amount of meetings we have. His are the meetings that were probably increased, though

Well, the middle-age white dude talking about WAP did his job, passed my cert exam and since it'll take a couple days for my next class to be available, think I'm gonna have some drinks to celebrate!
Thank you, dorky IT instructor who made an alarming number of South Park and Austin Powers jokes in his videos!
I log out about 7 hours into my day to workout/prep dinner/etc then log back in at 9pm to finish up any emails. It works pretty well for me. I don't work more than 8 hours a day, though

Bullshit Jobs: A Theory by David Graeber is a fun, breezy breakdown of all the ways modern corporate office jobs have been deformed by the insistence on non-specific bachelor's degrees as a form of gatekeeping and the decoupling of productivity from wages in many sectors of the economy.
50-70% of my job functions are because that's the way the system works, and if i'm not doing them then folks who are actually productive can't do their jobs.
my title is only important because other people assign the role importance.

My kitchen table is still my WFH office and it's right next to my kitchen. It's like if the office breakroom was right next your desk, and you don't have the option to grab something from the cafeteria.
We've all just been invited to a "priority" all-of-company meeting in 3 hours, followed up by a message from our senior manager that our team needs to attend, and will get together to discuss afterward.
I can only assume this is about huge pay rises and bonuses for everybody.
Company-wide reduction of 20%. Impacted people will hear from their manager by the end of today, and will be finishing this Friday. Fuck.

Dahak, right?

do these fuckers really think that banning the word "union" will make it less likely that their workers will form a union?
According to SEVENEVES is does the latter in establishing the former.
WFH pushing that into more of a norm is troubling.

My last job was exactly like this. WFH was the worst thing to happen to me there.
I will quibble with you on "delightfully".
Classic Julian behavior
My takeaway from that chart is not just that oo many people are working late at night, but also too many people are working during lunch.
