Wife is out running errands and we bought full grocery run so that we don't have to leave the house before we fly out for PAX (self quarantine so that if we DO get sick, it wont fuck up our vacation till we're back)
I started drinking at 11 and I'll prolly take a nap later and maybe watch No Way Home with the wife since she hasn't seen it.
I think a lot of people are happy to see a really clean-faced, blank version of themselves that shows off the things about their appearance that they have chosen (clothes, hairstyle) and washes out everything else into a generic nothing. You see this with snapchat filters, with bitmoji, with memoji, horizon facebook VR bullshit, with the way people light their own portraits, people who look at the foundation in their makeup kit and say "yes"
So when the anime portraits come out super generic and they don't have to confront any self-image issues and they can just say "thats me!", they love it.
For people who aren't revulsed by the generic anime style anyway.
This isn't to say that the broad stylistic universe of anime couldn't support accurate caricature. I actually think it could. But it would require a more talented artist working harder and people would dislike it. Lose-lose.
