Appropriately enough for a thread about Black lives, it's the engine that pays Kenyan people $2 an hour to be subjected to the trauma of moderating networks heedlessly fed huge swathes of the internet. Because once again, "AI" is just code for "Exploit poor and/or brown people, but also there's code that we hide behind to obfuscate that fact"

In November police shot a man who had shot his assault rifle into his home because he believed there to be an intruder. (the video is graphic and NSFW)

Police arrived on the scene and shot the man before even saying the words "drop your weapon"

They then proceeded to leave him in handcuffs as he lay dying on the ground for 6 minutes before taking them off to do CPR.

He died that night.

Police in my city recently killed a mentally ill man as his wife pleaded with them on 911 that he was having a mental health episode

Granted he had a shotgun in his hand but still

They shot the man 22 times immediately after shouting at him to drop the gun, no hesitation.

This happened less than a quarter mile from me. If I hadn't had ear plugs in to sleep I would have heard the gun shots.

Police are not equipped or trained to do anything but violence.

When I was in djibouti in 2010/2011, green tech hooked to your electrical system was illegal (water heater was cool). This was to force people to pay higher electrical rates from the local coal plant and the imported ethiopian power, made with turbines imported through djibouti.

I mention this because $2 is a number that was clearly negotiated and achieved to be high enough to clear some hurdle. Could have been $4 or $5 and kept these operation profitable, but these operations are... organized, managed towards specific individual interests, not national interests.

To the best of my knowledge, all of the cops involved in the Danzinger Bridge Massacre were college educated. Camden is the least aggressive reform that has even a chance of working.

the problem is it’s not a basic standard. The cops don’t brutalize people because they’re undereducated. You don’t need a college degree to understand why it is bad to beat someone to death at a traffic stop. The basic standard is a fundamental level of human empathy and caring.

They brutalize people because they’re placed in a position of power with almost no accountability whatsoever, have multiple decades of a culture where they have been taught by a fucking rich-ass lunatic who travels the country that they are the only thing that stands between civilization and collapse into mad max and every single person they encounter on the street might be lord fuckin’ humongous and so they have to be ready to throw down with lethal force at a moment’s notice, and our society keeps propping them up as the necessary paragons of law and order and won’t do anything meaningful to stop them from killing people.

Making cops go to college and get a bachelors isn’t a solution. It’s a distraction.

A southern California police department is facing national backlash after footage revealed that officers fatally shot a double amputee and wheelchair user who appeared to be hobbling away on the ground before he was killed.

Anthony Lowe, 36, was killed by officers in Huntington Park, a city in southern Los Angeles county, last Thursday. Cellphone footage captured part of the incident, showing Lowe on a sidewalk next to his wheelchair appearing to try to flee as two officers approach him with weapons drawn. More police cars arrived as the officers followed Lowe, who seemed to be limping away, but the video did not capture the shooting.

The man was a double amputee, out of his wheel chair, trying to get away

And they murdered him

They murdered a disabled man desperately trying to flee without any of his gear to help him.

This cannot be fixed
