[Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom] thread, in which we regret catching These Hands
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a game that is out now! You can play it, maybe? It's still the 11th in my timezone but the game started anyway!
I will presumably receive my copy tomorrow but also maybe not because I saw that Gamestop fka EBGames will be sending pins along with it if you preordered it for delivery

If I don't get it this weekend I will be UPSET
Playing it digitally already (new Zealand privilege) I will be upset for you as well!

I don’t know if it works on Switches but on Xbox you can tell your console to use NZ time zone and mooch off the date-line.
I'm going to go to Target early tomorrow and wait in line to not obtain that Zelda fanny pack that you can only get when buying a copy of the game in stores.
Last time I did that was for Scarlet & Violet when they had a little statue of the starters if you bought the combo pack in stores at launch. I was about 10 back in the line when the store opened, and not only had no one working at the store heard of these statues, they only had one (1) copy of the combo pack. It felt like that old comic where the Apple store guy opens the box to find one new iPhone and a gun with two shots.
I'm one of those losers that really didn't vibe with the whole 'breaking weapons' thing in BotW and never made it very far, but this is looking very good and I hear that they've fiddled with the weapon system that might not give me so much anxiety, so I'll be playing this as soon as it unlocks tonight.
It's rare for me to play big AAA games on release, so I'm excited to be part of the conversation
The game doesn't really call attention to it, but TotK carries over your horses from BotW. I caught a wild horse, but I'm riding my white horse from BotW instead.
No idea if there's anything else carried over from BotW saves.

This is cool because I sold my Zelda amiibo but I had Epona
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

It's not doing it for me, possibly because my horses were master mode? I'm very annoyed
I asked my wife what she wanted for her birthday (April) and she said Zelda and Zelda priority for the entirety of May. Zelda will be waiting for her when she gets home from work.
TOTK is scheduled to be delivered in 4 hours. What the fuck am I meant to do until then? My job? Fuck this world

Shortly after completing the Ultrahand shrine I saw some planks that were obviously there to form a bridge and thought "Ooh, time to do some construction"
Crab walked straight off the cliff manoeuvring pieces together.
Whoa the new toys are crazy! Can't wait to see the ridiculously broken things people come up with.

I’m the grumpy old man who says it can’t grabbed me yet. I’ve done the first two shrines and I guess I feel a bit too on rails? I’m sure the rails will disappear soon, but it feels sore right now.

It is the tutorial area of a Nintendo game rated E10+
The tutorial is, I guess, exactly as long as BotW. Might feel longer because you know what to do now.
I haven’t got far, but I’ve been ripping myself away from the obvious path of shrines in order to be a unique special snowflake taking a path the developers didn’t intend (wink), and well, I’m lost.
@Blake T
What I will say is I think it could have been masked a bit more. Rauru tells you something, you get to a shrine, Rauru is in the shrine and then him and Zelda (I think) do a little monk speech to you at the end, then you get outside and Rauru is sat in spirit form ready to tell you something else.
Far as I know he’s not present in the rest of the game, but 80% less Rauru could have convinced me I wasn’t in the tutorial.

Played a little bit last night after getting the game at a midnight release, and today at work I am thinking back and kicking myself for not solving a puzzle in a... funnier way.
The first Korok thing where you have to get one to his friend? I sorely wish I had just straight up attached his backpack to one of the hooks and sent him on his merry way.
I figured I would need both hooks for making the little gondola stable enough to get across myself, but I bet I could have totally made due with one of them.

There's a rail a little bit later that I'm going to put behind a spoiler.
It's a double rail, but one side it broken half way through the track. I didn't notice so I sent my first cart (and self) right off the island. The respawn point for that area kinda sucks so I had to build another cart to get back to that island.
Turns out, stuff you send off the edge doesn't repopulate! Built a single hook cart, misaligned part of it, and sent myself into the clouds again. And then I did it a third time, running out of materials. Fortunately there were two other paths to take over to my destination, but I felt real dumb!

Gonna blame that on staying up passed my bedtime.
I very luckily spotted the broken rail just before I did the exact same thing. Guess I got lucky that my one-hook-cart-fan gondola worked nicely. Incidentally, that's the spot where I figured you could just attach the Korok to things. Gluing the little guy to your ride works a lot better than manually holding him.
Now if I could have fused him to my shield, THAT would have worked the best. But I get why you can't do that. Kind of wish there was a way to get things back you've fused to weapons and shields, but oh well.

Unfortunately my one-hook-cart-fan gondola managed to snag the underneath side of the rail and flip my butt into the great beyond. Twice! It was a fairly slow flip too, but I panicked/was tired and didn't know how to alter my fate. Probably could have used the Ultrahand to re-stabilize if I had thought about it.

I want you all to know I attached a dozen things together and walked across.
I've seen all these complex building projects that people have done already but you can be damn sure I've just brute-forced my way past every building puzzle so far.
