I watched some streamers playing this and it looks incredibly bare-bones at the moment but that there could be a solid game in there with some more content. Currently there appears to only be 2 missions, which both have very similar objectives and take place on the same map.

there's a good chunk of game there already, with a basic progression system for the three classes, and the map itself is pretty large with various objective points, but yeah it definitely could use some more maps and game modes. luckily a roadmap is getting released tomorrow which should outline what we can expect. as more content is added, the Early Access price will also get bumped up

It is terribly bare bones. No way it makes it to launch with the size of lobbies it wants

    There's 4 guns. Total. Across 3 classes

    The game is great fun.

And the devs are the Squad folks so if they wanna do something, they'll do it.

I feel like there's been a "Good Starship Troopers FPS" shaped hole in my life ever since that one came out and flopped like 20 years ago now. As such, I've been really tempted to pick this up, but have been trying to keep myself from jumping in too hastily by playing a bunch more Terran Command, the Slitherin RTS that came out last year (and is super great overall, if a little uneven).

Anyway, point is, I'm excited to see how this develops, but seeing that it's not going to have more than 4 guns total in the game until, what, phase 4 of their roadmap? Is that right? That's a shame.

there's seven guns in the game currently, not four (Morita MK1, Morita Hawkeye, Morita MK1 Carbine, C-32 Grenade Launcher, Morita MK3 SAW, and two pistols) plus a rocket launcher you can get via a supply drop. so technically eight guns are in the game as of now. the movie it's based on having only one gun, I would say whats there currently is fine for EA launch

first medium sized patch is out today, 0.3.0, which adds a new mission location, mutators, twin gun emplacement, and weapon rebalancing. full patch notes linked below:
Update 0.3.0: Mutated Sands, Starship Troopers: Extermination's first medium Deployment, will go live on Thursday, June 22 at 10:00 AM PT (GMT-7)! The game servers will be briefly unavailable during this medium Deployment and players will need to update the game client.

Headquarters seeks to reinforce a new location on Valaka: the Fuel Depot. To help Troopers in this mission, the Twin Machine Gun Emplacement will now be constructible in bases. However, Valaka and the Bugs are about to get even more challenging: Mutators will add conditions to AAS and ARC matches above Recruit (Easy) difficulty. Also, the armory will be tuning and rebalancing all primary and secondary weapons in the arsenal thanks to R&D’s efforts in the field.
