Cashing a check....

Even when a check has been endorsed is it still required to have some kind of ID to prove that its yours? I'm saying this because I was planning on cashing in a check today and basically I placed it in my wallet and now it has dissapeared on me. So can someone other than I cash it in because it has been endorsed? And what the hell do I do if it has been or am I just screwed?

I'm under the impression that once you sign it (endorse it), anyone else can sign under your name and cash it them self. I've had friends sign their checks, give them to me, and then I cash them. So yes, you might be screwed. If it was a work check or a personal check, call whoever to see if they can cancel it. Good luck.

This is why you write "for deposit only" when you endorse a check, and only do it once you actually arrive where you plan on cashing it.
