Yeah I made the swap from PC gaming to console only gaming because of the cost. I’m using a 15 year old laptop to do excel and telework. But I play my switch and ps4pro for my gaming. I’ll pick up a ps5 next year.

    —Catching up—

The GPU nonsense leading into the pandemic meant that the last computer I built was a semi-budget build for a streaming/minor gaming system in the living room:

    67h4oxjh7b9l.jpeg

It hasn’t seen much use, tbh, and its 1660 was behind the times even when new. The computers the family actually uses for gaming are laptops that we got for ~$1300 each, and my ancient tower with the 980Ti that I want to replace, but can’t justify the expense.

Also I’m jealous because my wife’s laptop decided to have battery issues (swelled up to the point the keyboard was unreliable), and was old enough that it’s impossible to find replacement batteries that aren’t grey market.

Why jealous? Because we didn’t want her to keep using it so we replaced it and the new one was a higher price point and runs circles around mine (1660 vs 4070, both laptop versions)

also @Casual Eddy I'll play whatever we're missing support wise. Likely a stocky little dwarf with a barrel chest and named after an 80s band. Prolly something like David Li-Roth, so I can roll that as a healer or a tank or whatever.

I have three computers - one in my apartment in Serbia, one in the office in NY, and one at home.

The office one is the most bestial by far - 7950x3D, 64GB DDR5-6000, 4090. It gets used for ML, running a bunch of dockerized stuff to simulate production environments, and of course games.

GM: You approach the edge of the chasm. The opening yawns nearly 30’ wide, and is so deep you can’t see the bottom. You think you hear the sound of rushing water in the distance.

    DL-R: Might as well jump.

    GM: …

    DL-R: jump!

Mage: I .. don’t have that spell prepared.

Oh, thank God, the local rec center has a gym that offers daily passes for non-residents (and is really nice from when I used to live here years abo, glass 2nd story pics incoming)

I've traveled to see my parents and trying to find a gym offering day passes was turning into an exercise in frustration between unstaffed Anytime Fitnesses and F45 trial bullshit

there is a location in the ESO Morrowind expansion called Assarnatamat which is kind of Swenglish for "Ass is not a food"

    Allegedly a voice of reason.

Also Horizon: Zero Dawn is kind of a perfect Steam Deck game. Old enough that it can get 40-60fps comfortably on the handheld, modern enough that’s it’s wildly impressive that it works on the system.

I bought it a couple years ago and just never got into it, but now it’s my road game.

I tried playing BG3 on it for this trip and noped out real quick. Controller play and the bad performance just turned me off.

I'm not certain you've heard the expression, but you know the saying "you can never go home again"?

Because you captured it with your comment last night.

and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say
