I could never be the mob boss that was sent back in time to run things in Looper.

He's from the future! But he's stuck managing a bunch of wannabe gangsters AND he knows how everything will turn out. There's no mystery, no question of what will happen next.

Their meat is so stringy, and it’s always difficult to find ethically raised snobs to butcher.

The past two weeks I finished

    Leverage Redemption s1 & s2
    DnD Honor among thieves
    Loki (both seasons)
    Prey (predator)

They were all good. Especially Leverage and DnD HAT. I really wasn't expecting a good DnD movie.

It's kind of bonkers to me that the biggest indicator I was sick wasn't the scratchy throat yesterday (slept with the fan on, so, excusable) but that I was overly emotional at the drop of a hat for none of my other normal reasons. I pretty much only get super vulnerable to psychic damage when I am tired, in extreme pain for extended periods, or sick.

Yesterday I was tired but not "emotionally crying at 30 Rock" tired and I hadn't been in pain most of the day... as soon as I got hit by that wave of emotion though, my first thought was "ope, I'm getting sick, it wasn't just the fan!". I second guessed myself though... should have tested right there.

Totally unrelated to the above, it was probably a mistake to finish this 30 Rock rewatch today. I just got done weeping off and on for like the last 3-4 episodes.

In the words of Jenna Maroney, I've got "drunk-in-the-bathtub face"

I played This Bed We Made cuz it was on Jacobkosh's steam list and it sounded like a cool premise.

And it really is a cool vibe, being a maid in a snowed-in hotel, going around snooping through people's stuff and figuring out what is going on in their internal lives. The game looks great too, even with pretty barebones animations it has great lighting and sound.

Also like the main character and her kinda oddball energy, getting a big book of gossip about all your coworkers, figuring out who's banging who, etc.

But I think it would've been better if it was more episodic, more Telltale-ish, snoop through a room and then go gossip and then go through another (granted it's an indie game and they probably didn't have money to actually do that). The game mostly has one big mystery and while it does a satisfying job of doling out reveals for about 60% of it, once you realize what it's drawing from* it kinda loses energy, and it goes from a very complex messy little series of mysteries into having a Big Theme about a Big Cause. There's a couple lines at the end that are so bleeding heavy handed I kinda hated it, even though I agree with where the game is coming from.

There's also a couple of bits where guests are like, haha I sure do love designing puzzle boxes to hide my documents in! and anytime that happens it always feels like the game creators have run out of ideas for ways to piece together clues organically. There's also a few mysteries that feel like they don't really get answered convincingly, though I know I missed some content so maybe it was hidden away there.

    Spoilers
It really doesn't take that long before you realize that this is just your hotel maid protagonist stumbling into Carol. But basically as soon as your character is like omg Harold they're lesbians all the moral complexity falls out of the story. The story has a very stark moral divide between its good guys and its bad guys, and anyone who's gay is on the good side. Your bad coworkers aren't just annoying, they're leaving letters in plain sight about what raging hypocrites they are while they campaign to get your good coworkers fired just because they hate them so much. Your boss can't merely be an uptight prick he's got to be gentrification given human form.

So like there's a fair bit of evidence to suggest that maybe the women were really thinking about killing the husband, but the game really never entertains the idea that it's possible because gay people are morally good. The weird creepy guy who's taking photos of you is gay, so he can't actually do something bad either. There's only one straight guest left in the building, therefore he's the killer.

I dunno, I just wish it had more of an old school thriller sort of sensibility to it. Let our protagonist get genuinely weird with her constant voyeurism and make us think a little about how fucking invasive she is. Make it feel more possible that the women did a real bad thing for a sympathetic reason. Make things a little more challenging. The game takes a lot of inspiration from Hitchcock I think, but Hitchcock or other thriller directors from past decades let their protagonists get weird and questionable, and I think that would've helped this game a lot.

Anyway still definitely seconding the recommendation, it's a cool change of pace, even if I think the writing could've taken a lot more risks.

I wonder if there is something physiological behind that phenomenon. I also tend to get cold easily when either extremely fatigued or sick. The sick makes sense there cause, fever and such.... but susceptible to cold and emotions when tired/sick? That seems less obvious though I supposed being in a "weakened state" would explain it but that seems to have some odd connotations if you follow that rabbit hole.

Or maybe I'm just super dumb right now cause of the VID. Last time it absolutely made me more stupider.

now my ancient cat is losing another fang, which is bad, but at least we have an explanation for his pained behavior. the tooth is like, almost horizontal in his mouth, the poor guy.
he's going from 3 fangs to 2; presumably since the remaining teeth are both on the bottom he'll look like a gremlin 24/7.

we're just hoping he can hang in there in the meantime, he's been sickly this past year and needs to retain the little bit of weight he has left.

Speaking of cooking, Delicious in Dungeon is now up on Netflix everyone should watch it except @Atomika I know it's not for her.
Its an anime about a dungeon exploring party. The story then details their travels through the dungeon, the environments, traps, and monsters they encounter, and the meals they create. The pros and cons of these meals, and the characters' reactions to them, provide a running gag.

new billionaire's shortbread recipe just dropped

Here’s her ingredients list just for the stock:

    4 pounds beef bones
    2 large carrots,
    2 yellow onions
    2 celery ribs
    7 quarts cold water
    3 large cloves fresh garlic
    1 can Italian plum tomatoes
    1 each herb bouquet
Tie, in a piece of cheese cloth,
    4 allspice berries,
    6 black peppercorns,
    1/2 tsp dried thyme,
    1 small bay leaf
    4 sprigs of fresh parsley

Even at, like, WinCo prices I think that list has to go for $20-30

Then the soup recipe calls for six more large sweet onions, butter, red vermouth, peppercorns, flour, white pepper, and nutmeg

It’s a ridiculously expensive way to make French onion soup 😰

I just have a hard time believing that the inclusion or ommission a single small bayleaf or 6 peppercorns or half a teaspoon of tyme are going to be even detectable in a gallon or so of stock. Esp after you've simmered it down for hours.
