I know we aren't talking about star wars ever but rise of skywalker manages to just mind bottleling in how awful it is every single time I watch it.
You can't even blame executive meddling for the choices because they seem completely in line with all of jjs whole thing!

I remember watching it as a kid, always so tense about whether the Borg would win. Great Picard speech. Data getting horny. The reveal that the origin of star fleet is just some fuckos in a forest dicking about with rockets to make money. Great stuff
Alice Krige as the Borg queen. She remains my favourite convention experience where it was a relatively empty North of England convention so I just ended up chatting to her about her experience with the Royal Shakespeare company, which she seemed to appreciate, or she was just being polite. Regardless, classy lady

You are not mentioning one of my favorite Trek moments:
Isn't there a Star Trek movie where Worf rips a guy's arm off and beats him with it
That was p. dope

On to movies that have absolutely nothing to do with stars, Nobody is a pretty good johnwick-like. It's a tad sillier in tone, what with them playing out of place old timey music during action scenes, and the main guy is quite a bit more overpowered than Wick once he gets back in the swing of things, but it's a fun ride and they manage to hit their emotional scenes when they're needed.
The final action set piece is a bit slobby, though. B+.

Super 8 is way better than Stranger Things and also probably shorter than any given Stranger Things episode at this point
JJ Abrams is at his best when he is constrained by having to tell a complete story
Enough has been written about his Mystery Box philosophy, but insofar as he can be considered a decent director and writer it is best when he has to close the loop himself
Hey, I didn't like Star Trek Beyond too, but he made Star Trek Into Darkness, an all around banger, so, let JJ sit in the chair.
Maybe I'm completely wrong but it seems like you might have gotten your Star Trek's mixed up?
Nah, I'm a big fan of Kirk & Spock having to contend against Smaug.
That film, for all of its flaws, is at least trying to deliver a message to its audience.
Meanwhile, Star Trek Beyond, a film I can't stand at all, feels self-indulgent and without a collective theme.
Another perceptive? Into Darkness feels like an actual movie, while Beyond feels like a really long episode (and I think it profoundly suffers for that).
star trek beyond is the only film i have ever fallen asleep watching in a theater

It's a cool moment but isn't very Star Trek. Though it makes sense given where Picard's headspace is at re: the borg in that movie, it is an indication of where the future TNG movies would go and that sullies it IMO.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

You ask me to support a movie that takes Idris Elba and hides him behind a god-awful make-up job?

I mean we can just say Michael Bay there I don't think there's any reason to believe that one came from anywhere else

Good, great, let's hang that as a banner for 2024.
I don't give a shit about Jedi or that bullshit, we're gonna talk about Kobayashi Maru & blood wine.
Sorry, them's the rules.

Oh, we've previously established you like talking out your ass about something you don't know anything about, sure.
I was an hour in and getting bored and saw there was still like 2 fucking hours left and that was it for me.
I still liked the first Transformers though.

Nay, I say nay to that.
