I want a Star Trek where the climax of the episode is someone giving a big speech that convinces someone to do or not to do something
Maybe also a Star Trek where there's a weird thing on a planet and uh oh it's bad we gotta figure out how to shut it down/escape it/evacuate the people and then they do that and the story ends
Or a Star Trek where people are having weird dreams and they gotta figure out what's up with that, or one guy is trying to figure out what to do for someone's birthday party in the b-plot, or whether or not these rock-drilling robots are sentient
Until we got a Star Trek that does things like that on the regular I'm just not very interested in Star Trek

I genuinely can't tell if this is a bit.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust

My perfect episode of star trek involves two conflicting, but valid points of view creating an overall ethical dilemma which requires our crew to look within themselves and their own morales to find a solution. The climax is a five minute monologue which explodes the nature of humanity and the ethical ramification of acting or not acting simultaneously.
I heard they’re making a micro series called 28 Seconds Later.
Yeah, it's debuting this fall on Quibi: Money Never Sleeps.

So, last night my partner introduced me to Encanto, which I found delightful.
I enjoyed it a lot more than Coco.
Also? The revelation that We Don't Talk About Bruno was the smash hit from the film is weird to me, cause if you asked me what the best song is, it's Surface Pressure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQwVKr8rCYw

That's my GF's favorite song from the movie. I think the opening song Family Madrigal is the best, but Dos Oroguitas is great too if you want to be sad.
Encanto is kind of infuriating to me because I think it's so close in terms of actually being about something, but I think the ending really fumbles the ball, and instead of showing literally any character depth or interactions, everyone is extremely surface level and shallow.
Like, Surface Pressure is a good song, but Louisa is absolutely never shown being under pressure or the family having expectations for her. She happily, and easily, does several chores and then has a full flown breakdown. The song reveals she is under tremendous pressure, but we never see her under any pressure at all other than later in an existential one as she loses her strength. And every other character is like this. There's no actual internal conflict in the movie other than between Mirabel and the Grandma, it's just a really weirdly plotted movie.
Frozen isn't some super textually deep work, but we do spend an opening third of the movie being shown what Everyone's Deal is. Elsa is aloof and standoffish and that's because she's afraid of herself. Anna is nearly batshit from being a shut-in and desperate for literally any amount of affection. They say this in songs, but we also see it in how they actually interact and have conflict with one another. It's why Let it Go works! It's a catharsis point for the character that is earned by the text.

This song is an anthem for every oldest sibling, especially one's in a dysfunctional home

The songs are all used to explore the characters inner motivations...which is what reveals Luisa's turmoil. You see her running in the background doing all these jobs back to back, it's not a big leap to empathize with those expectations.
Anyway, Surface Pressure is incredibly good.
I actually like all of Encanto, though yeah the ending is a little too neatly tied up.

I’d watch a hundred of the worst 90s dinosaur movies you could find before giving a minute of my time to a Jurassic World sequel. I’ll tell you that much

Your movie should not be allowed to release if the trailer ends on "Bad joke... LOUD NOISE or musical sting!" Think of one idea, trailer people, I dare you.

i have to imagine some of these things exist out some sort of "no bad press" style thinking and are designed to get attention through pissing people off.

I genuinely can't tell if this is a bit.
All those ships are artificial.
If you want ships with big naturals, check out Moya on Farscape.
100% naturally grown Leviathan.
Perhaps you want the spaceship to look like a HUGE DICK?
Great, cause LEXX is here to provide for ya.

It felt like they were angling for another Let It Go musically and ended up letting that influence their plot a bit overmuch as a result

How did this get made? Like, I lived through the 90's. I know some weird shit was going on. But this....
(I guess the real question is how did this exist and I didn't know about it.)
