A couple days ago, "Frontier Psychiatrist" got stuck in my head again. It comes and it goes, but something triggered it enough that I've been humming it on and off. So naturally, with a work like that, you decide to watch the music video... which is 24 years old now!
So that's all well and good.. you know, nothing big, woke up an hour early and threw this on while half asleep. I read through the comments, and found one that talked about where all the identified samples were that made it up. Now, I love this aspect of things - where a sample has been chopped up and modified so much that you have no clue where it comes from, and when you do, your mind is blown as you learn about music you had no clue existed.
Then I noticed.. a 20 minute deconstruction video. Where an incredibly talented dude went through and reconstructed the songs using the original samples!
Damn... that is such a cool way to present the samples, even including why they work or how they found them in some cases.
Naturally, clicking a new recommended video leads to more of his work showing up. And so last night I watched the deconstruction of "Right Here, Right Now" by Fatboy Slim.
This one is insane. He talks about how he got Fatboy Slim himself, Norman Cook, on the livestream where he built this! And what's even more amazing, there are samples that are still unidentified because Norman can't remember where he sampled them from!
I love this kind of thing. It's like a call and response - an artist makes an incredibly cool song, and then others deconstruct it like a puzzle. I've seen it done with daft punk, and with a dude making songs using samples out of Garage Band.. but doing it like this, showing off the original recordings in full.. is just great. And deserves far more views than he's gotten so far.
Also he has a comically oversized mug, in a fun way.

It is really cool to see a lot of the samples further the theme of the album (overwatching tv). In that most of them are either from a tv show or talking about tv.
kind of losing my mind how much time he gives mortal kombat over literally any other fighting game from the year

What's crazy about the Super Mario Wonder model using morph targets and extra body parts to mimic the effect of 2D smear frames is that it's something pioneered in 3D platformers by Crash Bandicoot.

Mk has better animations than all the other fighters outside of maybe the heavily stylised stuff. I think street fighter and tekken look way worse and way more janky and weird than MK

I just learned the Admiral Thrawn analyzes the Imperium of Man video was done through AI voice work and I am really disheartened right now because it works so fucking good. But also illustrates why AI is so fucking bad.
edit: The thing that really got me about MK1 is Sindel, like she's still a comic character, but realistic without loosing the comic bits.
Mortal Kombat looks truly terrible and unreadable to me
I dunno it must be a preference thing but I genuinely think its animations look better and more impactful than most of its peers. I guess it just depends on what you like
the designs are there but the animation/art just feel off

Holy cow. This feels like it is breaking so many taboos at once.

I love these sorts of challenges, and Hitman is a great game in which to do them.

on the one hand I get why he praised their ability to preserve the traditional MK aesthetic while still modernizing it
on the other hand the traditional MK aesthetic they worked so hard to preserve is "dogshit"
Chip-tunes are still pretty cool... 😎🆒🎶🎸🎵
I love how much Fountain still makes people pissed off.
