My other entry is Wolverine origins. Terrible movie, fuckin fun game. You get shot so much you see metal and you grow it back again. I’ve been told it’s a GoW clone (at the time it came out in like 2008?) and I never liked the original GoW series. It’s fun though and that’s what I care about.
If given the choice, I'd much rather play Wolverine: Origins over any God of War game on the PS2

Saboteur was a fun game that nobody talked about.
It had a cool mechanic where the regions were in black and white until you cleared them and they’d go color.
I was worried calling Control a 7/10 game would be too much of starting a fight on these forums
But it's absolutely one of the earlier thoughts I had
Would've been better if it was just a walking sim without any of the gunplay or psychic powers
10/10 disagree with that statement at the end there.

I liked the combat enough that I wouldn't say it'd be better as a walking sim, but I would agree that there's enough cool shit happening that it would be a totally complete experience and still a great game as a walking sim

I didn’t dislike the combat in Control but I found it frustrating sometimes.
Ironically the controls felt off.

Control is 10/10 style and like 6/10 gameplay for me.
But like, I am willing to forgive a lot because of the ashtray maze.

Another vote for the open world Mad Max game. That thing is a blast to play. The sandstorms and whatnot were so atmospheric, and the fire effects were incredible. Definitely gets a ding for being pretty damn repetitive and overly long in my opinion, but it's a wild ride that takes a while to start feeling stale.
I also loved upgrading the various hideouts. I really appreciate it when games do stuff like that, where upgrades provided a impactful visual change, and they really nailed the moto wasteland aesthetic.
Also thanks for reminding me about Shogo MAD! Kiddo me thought the opening song was just the coolest. Had cool branching paths and sweet ass mechs too.

I feel like the Ashtray Maze would be even cooler if it didn't take like 35-40 hours to get to it
Which could definitely be accomplished by stripping out the combat (or at least some of it)

I got one
Yooka-Laylee
Essentially it’s just a Banjo and Kazooie but what really put it over the top for me was the final level. That shit was hard and took me awhile to do.
Snowboard kids is an amazing, but different Mario kart clone. As an aside, one of the most expensive n64 games is snowboard kids 2, which was only released in Australia, which I rented, played loved, and never bought.

Snowboard kids 2 totally released in the states, I played it a lot! It was very fun!
we need more big yellow dudes with weird button dicks
But I’m right here

The best game I can think to fit this is Before We Leave. It's a city builder thing from a few years ago, and it isn't amazing, doesn't really do anything to stand above all the others. But I find it extremely charming, reallly love the art style, and the production chains are satisfying to set up. Very much a comfort game.

I'm also going to say Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in NA I think?) because although it's not a good game, it was a ton of fun to play stoned and swapping controllers with my mate.
There are some weird itch.io games I've gotten in bundles over the years that are incredible ideas with bizarre execution, or vice versa
This is where I tell you to go try out Strawberry Cubes, a game that will live rent free in my head forever as maybe the most unsettling experience I've ever had with interactive media
Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy might be my actual answer though. FPS with telekinesis and other psychic abilities for combat and puzzles. Definitely a bit cheesy and looks like it's about to fall apart at the seams late game.
It was third person though
It does have that music video by cold though which is so funny

It was a fun action/adventure game.

Can I be the doctor that turns around so I can have deniability?
For me, Control is a 10/10. It's the game that has grabbed me more than any other game in the last 5 years, easily
No it’s in my contract that all my final confrontations happen inside the house of mirrors at an abandoned amusement park.
Can I be a guy in the background just repeatedly pumping my fist?
Yes.
Control is a game where yes it has flaws yes it has jank yes it has things others bounce off of.
But for me, 10/10 perfect vibes this is my game it was made for me

But I did it.
Wasn't that the game that had rude titty DLC too?
A quick google search tells me that yes…yes it is.
Yeah I'm currently in a setting where that google search would be a Bad Idea...
Snowboard kids 2 totally released in the states, I played it a lot! It was very fun!
Man, it'd be nice if they made a doshin sequel with graphics that looked right out of the concept art
But I’m right here
Uhh, no
The thread clearly states 7/10, not 11/10!

Also Control is an 8 for me because the combat is just jank enough to impede the vibes, but the vibes are p fuckin good
The first one was too hard, the third was too easy, the second one was a lot fun
