What book should I read next. Just finished rereading the Lord of the Rings so no fantasy.

An option for reading is to join the Shelved by Genre podcast. You can read stuff and then listen to smart people talk about it. They're funny people.

S1: Book of the New Sun: What if a really shitty person was neoJesus. Seriously he's a torturer and a rapist and he loves to talk about giant women. Also there's real weird aliens.
S2: Earthsea: What if fantasy had no battles and no wars, but also was written over a really long realtime which means that the person that started writing it is quite different from the person who ends it.
S3: Junji Ito: Just started, but what if there was a teenage girl that was so beautiful that people long for her, then long to kill her. Also she's like a spore, if a spec of her remains you get more Tomies. It's a problem.

How do I find a parent with the same age as my daughter with a similar parenting style as my own.

Other than my wife I guess.

Like I meet parents, but I guess part of it is, part of it is me rapidly being able to clock people and you know just a lot of people are doing average kind at raising kids. But I haven’t been able to find a good dad friend. I have friends who are dads who have older and younger kids, but I just really want a parent that I can really just jive with.

My daughter did swim lessons last month (more "getting comfortable in the water and playing" lessons, obviously). Only other dad with a kid my age had named his son Ender, "like Ender's Game." If I didn't know what that was, we mighta stood a chance.

I'm stinky and sweaty from work and I need a shower, but I'm also tired and lazy so I don't want to get up off the sofa. Please advise.

Run a hose from the shower to the sofa. Best of both worlds.

You just gotta keep taking your kid to activities and assessing the other parents. Sooner or later you'll find someone relatively normal. It's exhausting.

    Southern Californian detected.

Not just because of the freeway numbers, but you prefaced them with "the"

Anyway 101 in my opinion tends be the best way since even though it's physically longer there's usually less traffic. Let your heart be your guide and also maybe Google maps

this is why I try and set my friends with small children up on adult playdates with each other, so their peer groups don't end up sucking.

If you shower and regret it, you can't unshower.

If you don't shower and regret it, you can always shower.

Also, if you leave the sofa you can't be sure it's still there when you return. Best to not risk anything.

Where should I order my pizza from tonight? Bougie place with weird toppings, or one of the chains?

The bougie place doesn't deliver, for those that consider that a factor.

What should I, a Californian of the Northern variety, eat for dinner? Should I give up and eat a Safeway premade microwave meal, should I cook a frozen Trader Joe’s steak and stout pie in my oven, or should I get some better fare

Yeah that’s what I figured. It just hasn’t really happened yet. A lot of Viv’s parent friends are lovely, but their partners have issues.

One time I was at the park with my daughter and she ran into one of her friends from dance class and her dad was there and half the time it felt like his questions were a variation of the question do you actually like being a dad and I was answering wrong by saying yes.

We got incredibly lucky in that our next door neighbours are great and they have a child a similar age to ours. The only downside is I had to join a social soccer team, because the dad is Brazilian and he loves soccer
