anyone who thinks gangster flicks glorify violence are the same type of people who watch Behind The Music of, like Milli Vanilli and right after they win best new artist grammy go "So, I guess things worked out for them in the end, huh?"
i like milli vanilli
I was at the used record store a while back and I found a milli vanilli single. I almost bought it.
That was bullshit. Tony lives a life of crime, kills his cousins, corrupts a federal agent, and what torment do the furies have in store? More of his greedy wife and dipshit son! It’s Greek tragedy for fucking hippie retards. It’s some soft of fucked postmodern bullshit; the story is self-aware enough to fuck the audience over with a bullshit ending.
At least Big Love is too goddamned weird to do anything this goddamned stupid.

Yeah the ending was a pretty big WTF for me. Once I thought about it though I kind of liked it...the fact that no one close to Tony was killed sort of sends the (pretty honest) message that crime does pay, and the ending makes it clear that Tony hasn't changed at all. The typical gangster movie always talks about the rise and, more importantly, the fall of some mob boss, so I think it's pretty neat that they managed to avoid that particular cliche.
Yeah I watched it with like 5 other people and every last one of us thought the DVR had just taken a shit. Although you do have to give him credit for going with the one ending I don't think anyone saw coming.
The entire theme of the Godfather is that anyone involved in the mafia even peripherally ends up either miserable or dead. If you didn't get that try watching the movie again with your fucking eyes open.
which is a point only delivered 20 minutes before a 3 hour film ends
haha i like this version of watching things
who wants a nuanced story with dynamic characters? that shit isn't resolved until the resolution! gimme good, old static characters and a heavy-handed message any day of the week.

Tony dies. Remember Bobby and Tony talking on the boat? Remember the time they replayed it last episode? "You don't even hear it when it happens." Direct Bobby quote. So we have a shot of Meadow coming in the door, followed by a quick shot of Tony, then the episode fades to total black, not the credits, but BLACK, THEN the credits. Also, the first episode EVER with no music in the credits.
Tony is deadski.

I'd still nail Meadow, even if her dad was some scary mob boss who would kill me.
What was disappointing about the finale was how awesome last week's episode was. Bobby dying, Sil getting shot, Tony holding the machine gun. It set it up for some major stuff to get done, then whoops!
a character in the imagination of an autistic boy who is in a hospital in Boston

What? That's just crazy talk. Clearly Tony was the main focus of this man's imagination:
Seriously, that little send-off/commercial just before the episode began was pretty funny.
Bobby Flay is the definition of pretentious, but damn, can he cook! I particularly enjoy Throwdown! with Bobbly Flay. The best part is, he usually loses.
Oh right, the Sopranos? Never watched it, but being that it is an unavoidable "water-cooler" discussion today, I've heard many theories.
1)
Tony keeps looking up, always on edge. This is how he lives his life. Wondering when he's gonna get whacked for the things he's done. What a disgraceful way to live!
2)
The "you never hear it coming" theory, explained a few posts earlier.
3)
Something big goes down and they all die.
Personally, I like to imagine Tony's head explodes and the diner is filled with Jolly Ranchers! That's what is (apparently) so great about the Sopranos ending. It's like a choose your own adventure book!

This makes sense. but DAAAAAMN
Maybe. That makes a lot of sense, given the context. But at the same time, it leaves a lot of room open for a movie... Sopranos on the big screen is something I wouldn't pass up.
Also, anyone see the new HDTV (Toshiba?) commercial with Cristopher? I couldn't help thinking, "He's a dead cokehead! Why should I buy your TV?!"
My wife and I watched the repeat last night. The whole cat thing was hilarious. When everything went black my wife started cursing our cable company because she thought it was their fault. When I told her that it was supposed to end like that she started cursing some more.
It was a really shitty way to end a show, but I agree that it was still way better than the Hero's finale.
A lot of you are probably past caring, or never gave a shit about the Sopranos to begin with, but if you are at all interested, this is a damn good read:
