RNG has smiled upon me, second 10 pull and Zhu pops out.

Looks like I can stop here and save up for Jane, since I'll probably need to save up for the pity pull to balance the scales.

Got Zhu, got Ben to c3. His c2 is actually interesting, as it makes his counter add an additional 300% def to its power? Which does seem potentially useful.

But yeah, right now I'm working on just getting options in each element I think. Koleda+Ben are passable on fire, Grace+Anton mows down electric weakness, and Zhu+Nicole should cover Ether now just fine (slotting Anby for stun, since Nicole will give her the extra bonus, even if it's a minor one)

In a perfect world, I think I'd want elements covered as Electric-Fire-Ether anomoly/disorder since they're damage-focused with their anomolies, and Ice-Phys as the mono-element hypercarry teams since their anomalies are buffs for more traditional DPS, but Jane's right there. And if I stumble into Koleda or Lycaon in the next month or two, that would definitely make a mono electric team and mono fire team way more attractive. I think the Sons of Calydon (Piper/Lucy's faction) is also supposedly mostly fire based and they're rumored for around 1.3 or 1.4. I think that glaive girl in Miyabi's faction is supposed to be anomaly too, but she was doing electric damage in that mission when she popped up, so unless she's 5* Anton, not sure she'd be enough of an improvement over Grace.

Pulled Zhu Yuan around 60-70 in (I'll have to check later, once the history has updated). Went ahead and pulled her Wengine, and got it fairly quickly as well. Decided to go back to the character banner to try for a few more copies of Nicole to finish her off...and the next 10 pull gave me Lycaon.

Still somehow no Piper, but I got Nicole to M5 and Ben to M6. Excited about a game where I actually have some luck with pulls.

Well I got my S-rank early (at about 50 pity; had done some rolls on Ellen's banner) and won the 50/50. You love to see it, but... I was really banking on getting enough stuff to buy a copy of Lucy from the shop, and that didn't pan out. Awkward. I don't think it's worth it to keep rolling just for that, too risky. I'll just pray she's on one of the next banners, I guess.

I got an S rank at 50 pulls on ZY banner but it was Lycaon; kept going and got the guaranteed ZY at 80 pulls afterwards which wiped out all of my saved up currency. The silver lining is that I maxed out both Nicole and Ben along with their respective W engines, so on top of making Nicole even more supportive I at least get more consolation exchange tokens when I pull them in the future.
I'm sure that Lycaon will be useful later when I can invest in him but I really needed a second strong dps to field in Shiyu Defense - getting ZY let me blow through S-ranking the last 2 stable nodes and start working on the season ones. I got kind of lucky farming for discs in the week before she came out so I have a pretty good setup of gold drive discs for her which really came through on cutting through the Ether weak bosses. I also took her out for a spin since I hit rank 45 and unlocked the final node of the first Hollow Zero section and it went pretty well

I kind of want to keep pulling till next limited guarantee since I don't really lose out either way tbh - either I get ZY c1 which seems great or I get a random S agent and prime the guarantee for next banner

Neat I have the booty cop and it even came with a bonus one of corrins w-spheres so I didn’t have to feel bad about taking her starlight engine just in case I need her physical skills.

I really need to use all my batteries since I haven't touched them yet and they're piling up.

But also because I'm prodding at the timed Shiyu Defense stuff now that I've got it unlocked and every stage is like:
    Ellen/Anby/Soukaku: 2-2:30
    Grace/Rina/Piper: 4:30

My character investment may be a little too shark-centric at the moment.

zhu yuan seems like very powerful burst, but wow her crit struggles early and it shows if you dont have the drives or the engines to mitigate it

This is the future. This is what we built. This is what we wanted. It must have been. Because we all had the fucking choice, didn't we? It is only our money that allows commercial culture to flower. If we didn't want to live like this, we could have changed it at any time, by not fucking paying for it.

So let's celebrate by all going out and buying the same burger. -transmet

Eh, her passive 30% crit rate is going to do a lot of work I think there, since having any support will turn it on (presumably, you're using Nicole for the 25% ether damage she gives the party whenever she inflicts her defense shred)

My current issue with Zhu Yuan is that she loves jumping away from enemies, while wanting to be close to them to do max damage.

Yeah, mitigating this is definitely tricky. I'm also having difficulty following exactly how far along she is in her attack string, for the sake of knowing when it's okay to do her dodges or switch off her, but it's still day 1. I'm definitely having a lot of fun using her; probably gonna pass Soldier 11 as my favorite character for Hollow Zero.

  • MadicanMadican No face Registered User regular
At this stage in the game I'm just pushing buttons and not worrying too much about optimal combos, emptying her clip when needed. Also used one of those "pick a main stat" items to get her an Ether Damage disc. Now she kinda pops off to the point I'm not sure when Anby is supposed to come in because everything's dead already

I lost my 50/50 to get Ellen, but managed to get her anyway just before things rolled over, so now I've got the full ice team I can run alongside Cunning Hares w/Nekomata or Nekomata and the...biker gang girls?

I've had good luck I think. Have Nekomata, Lycaon, Ellen, and a few S-Rank W-Engines (Lycaon's and Soldier 11s I know, plus I think one more I'm forgetting).

At the moment, I think my C6 Soukaku w/Polar Metal 4pc+Hormone Punk 2pc might be outdamaging my Ellen since I haven't checked out how to use her properly and Soukaku is easy and strong as hell with her C6.

74 for Zhu Yuan, then 14 for Lycaon. 66 to get the Wengine. If I could get one more Nicole, I'll be done with pulls for...a long time.

As far as playing Zhu goes, holding left or right as soon as you start her basic mash combo skips the backwards jump, so that helps. Also you can hold attack after using her skill and she won't do the big backwards spin that usually precedes using her hold basic attacks.

Also tapping a direction won't make her dodge, you have to hold it, which is really annoying when they've trained you to tap the dodge/parry button.

I wanted to get more Nicoles but now I'm at Ben's C5 and Nicole's C1...

60 more pulls until guaranteed S-rank so I'll stop here for now until we know what the next banner is for sure. If Jane isn't next then I'll probably do another 30 pulls. If I get another Zhu then no-problem, if I get a different S-rank then I'll get Jane for sure on her banner, and if I don't get an S-rank then it's just 30 more until I do.

Edit: Just to confirm, this is one new character banner every 3 weeks?

Yeah, that's the standard Hoyo banner rotation. Every now and then, a patch may run a week long or short, but it's unusual.

I kind of want at least Nicole M1, but I honestly don't know that I have any use for her, especially since Lucy's at like M3 already, and Seth may genuinely be a solid anomaly type supporter that I may want to build.

Also, the forbidden Soukaku technique is that her chain attack lingers for so fucking long that if you follow it up with Anby's, Soukaku is still on the field so you switch past her.

Reports from people power leveling are that the costs for raising levels/skills to the final maximum are ridiculously high, while the mission rewards at higher account level don't really improve. Rough estimates are putting things at 2-3 weeks per character to go from level 1 to everything maxed, with the default 300 stamina per day. Not including equipment.

It will be easier with the 3-6 characters you're already leveling now, of course. Especially reusing equipment. But I'm starting to think my plan to just not pull for all of 1.1 might be a good idea.

My current limited pull plan is go for Zhu this time to build a team with Anby and Nicole and then save up for whenever Miyabi drops (assuming she's still ice-type) to round out my second team.

  • AshtonDragonAshtonDragon AKA The Nix Registered User regular
There's definitely a chance I roll for someone before Miyabi, but it depends on when she shows up. If she's not in 1.2, then I'll definitely wind up rolling on someone else. And I have absolutely no idea who, yet.

  • ReynoldsReynolds Gone Fishin'Registered User regular
Rumors are leaning towards her being in 1.3 but she was so popular in the beta that they have to know people will be saving up for her. And skipping the two forgettable dudes along the way.

I rolled for Zhu mainly to make an Ether team since prior to her the only other Ether unit was Nicole. I'll probably be saving for the next patch or so because I can cover the other elements besides Ice until Miyabi

Just hit intraknot level 40 after 13 days. Apparently, it should take about 8 months to hit level 60. The climb after 50 just gets sillier and sillier with each level.

I got lucky and got Zhu in just 20 pulls and then a Resonaboo in 10 pulls. That makes for a good Zhu / Anby / Nicole team.

I don't plan on spending any money with ZZZ, so I'll stop there even though I wanted more Nicole constellations. I'll save my rolls for the next character that looks cool.

  • initiatefailureinitiatefailure Registered User regular
how much should i worry about the bangaboos? I'm only like lvl 28, i have a guaranteed boo in 20 pulls and just got zhou. my previous plan had been to just default to the cunning hares one which i could still do but now I have the option to get the ether one which reads really strong at least. are they kind of the thing i'd expect to have them all eventually so don't worry too much about it?

  • ReynoldsReynolds Gone Fishin'Registered User regular
I'd try to grab an S rank for each main S rank DPS. They seem to give out plenty of pulls so far.

    uyvfOQy.png
  • AshtonDragonAshtonDragon AKA The Nix Registered User regular
I picked up the ether Bangboo first for general-use purposes, since it helps with grouping enemies. And of course since been rewarded, since it's obviously good for Zhu Yuan. I do think it's a good idea to have Bangboos for each element you are using though, especially since some of the drive disk sets reward you for triggering their anomalies. So helping make sure an enemy is burned for Soldier 11 is helpful, for example.

That said, the A-rank bangboos seem pretty competitive, so you don't have to worry about it too much.

  • OwenashiOwenashi Registered User regular
I'm going for the faction Bangboos first, having gotten Butler and now going for Safety.

  • ArcTangentArcTangent Registered User regular
I've got the ice and the electric ones so far since those make the most obvious sense for the mainstays on my two teams (Ellen + Soukaku and Grace + Rina) and should carry me through 1.1 at least. I think the element ones are more generally useful, if for no other reason as they really do a significant amount of anomaly buildup so can trigger Disorder, but apparently the Cunning Hares one is quite strong on its own, and the Ether one's ability to group up and control things is solid too.

I think we're supposed to be getting a cop one added in 1.1, though I know nothing about it. I'm kind of leery on focusing on factional grouping in general just because it seems like that's super FOMO with having to get multiple characters that are released in quick succession. Though if the other factions are like the cops and want types rather than elements for their second passive, that goes out the window.

Well the nice thing about the faction-Bangboos is that they only need two members of the team to be of the same faction for their middle-perk to work so you still have a spot left for anyone else not part of their team.

  • OrphaneOrphane rivers of red that run to seaRegistered User regular
I got amilllion first then diversified into sparkboo and now aiming for sharkboo

the ether s rank seems nice for grouping qol on mobs but there's overlap with Nicole and i think if you're running Zhu Yuan/Nicole combo the A-rank Devilboo actually does a lot more dmg against bosses because of how its chain attack basically turns it into a drone that follows up each of your attacks with additional shots for a bit, not to mention as an A rank it's a lot easier to max out and get higher multipliers on its skills for

that being said I don't think bangboos are nearly as big of an improvement to teams as getting better drive discs at the moment etc. are so it's just something you work on on the side. General use ones like Pressureboo, the one you get free copies of from progressing in Hollow Zero exploration, or the free A-rank Luckyboo that's a reward for the bangboo event can also work just fine in any team as long as you're not worried about optimizing chain attacks vs bosses?

  • ArcTangentArcTangent Registered User regular
Yeah. I wouldn't stress about them. So much so that I may use the bangbucks pity currency for some denny instead. They absolutely shower you will pulls for them compared to the other stuff, and zillions of upgrades, but I kind of wish I had left both mine at 40 since I wasn't really paying attention to the steep money cost there.

yeah those guys are probably the most annoying elites period, random fleeing teleportation is supremely annoying since it leads to wasted EXs and combos you have to interrupt to run over to its new position. the triple teleport swoop attack that's only assist parryable at the last hit is just a pita to deal with when you're doing time attack stuff like in Shiyu

You can actually stop the triple attack with a dodge counter... with only certain characters. Grace and Rina whiff with their attacks since they're projectiles, but most melee characters will smack the fucker out of it. There's still no flash to signal they're about to attack though, so it's just kind of dodge and hope, though Ellen's dodge and shift a half second later into shark mode seem to both count for the dodge window, so she feels to me to be super forgiving. Could also be placebo effect too.
