I am still disappointed to learn that air fryers are just repackaged convection ovens, with less capacity than the convection oven that my mom has been using for cooking since the 80s. Just like Instant Pots are just pressure cookers, which have existed forever.

At least our convection oven had labeled buttons and dials.

in both cases they are significant improvements as far as ease of use for the average person but yeah they are unfortunately not magic

by the way if you write on stainless steel with a sharpie, it will look bad almost instantly, go illegible, and get dye all over your hands the first time you accidentally touch it.

It's essentially "works just like a normal oven for cooking dinner, except you can cook things 25% quicker and give things a nice crisp without over cooking them because of the convection!"

They definitely upped the quality on the actual convection ovens to compensate for the rise in basket-type air fryers. Every convection oven I tried to buy burned out its computer chip in a few uses, the ones you can buy now that aren't those $50 shitboxes actually last years.
