my friends and I played so, so much Virtua Tennis

and none of us even gave a shit about tennis!

Virtua Tennis was perhaps the best sports game ever made.

So, jet set radio, was it titled jet grind radio in some territories? Does the announcer say "jet grind radioooo!" in those versions?

He still says Jet Set Radio, but the game was just marketed as Jet Grind Radio.

    ~49 seconds in

It sounds like it says Grind.

Oh, that does, yeah, but DJ Professor K still says Jet Set RADIOOOO.

I wish I knew if there was a way to get one of those VMU2s that they did some crowdfunding thing for last year

VMU form factor with a backlit screen, USB-C rechargeable battery, plus you can hook it up to PC for transferring and backing up saves

Though that's a real close split with NFL 2K.

And, if you count them as sports games, Sega Rally 2 and Sega Bass Fishing.

Listening through the Jet Set Radio soundtrack...

I didn't know there was a Dragula remix in Jet Set Radio...

I didn't know there were any of these licensed tracks actually, huh

the licensed tracks were exclusive to the US version, along with the 2 Grind City stages and Coin and Cube (although the HD rerelease for Xbox/PS3/PC brought them back for everyone)

It is scary how none of the modern games come close. Virtua Tennis 3/4 is the only reason I keep my 360 around.

2001's SEGAGAGA is one of the most unique games on the Dreamcast. In it, the player is tasked with restoring the fortunes of an ailing Sega against its evil rival, DOGMA, a company which owns most of the console market (and is clearly inspired by Sony).
Laced with humour and packed with Sega-related references, SEGAGAGA never saw release outside of Japan – by the time it launched in March 2001, the company had already announced it was to abandon the Dreamcast in favour of becoming a third-party publisher. Any chance of a Western release was totally off the cards.

The director of the game, Tetsu "Tez" Okano, has taken to social media to urge developers to create their own SEGAGAGA.

"If SEGAGAGA has a unique significance, it is that it was made on a budget that is a hundredth of Shenmue's, and from nothing but ideas," says Okano. "Please everyone, please make your own SEGAGAGA!"

He also reveals more about the game's development:
The reason why this happened is that SEGAGAGA was made in secret, as it was highly likely to be stopped if shown to many people during the process. I can only thank then-President Oguchi, Mr Takezaki and Mr Sasahara from the PR department for making the decision to launch it.

SEGAGAGA was checked considerably by the publicist at the time, one month before launch. There were a lot of elements that were completely removed, besides the excavated and immortalised data, which, well, I now think should have been checked.

More in the piece; nothing official happening but he wants to do it if someone can get the ball rolling on a port

    The Dreamcast was pretty good
Not Dreamcast, but it kind of bugs me that Sega never ported or remastered some of their banger Saturn RPGs. Shining Force 3 in particular, I would pay full retail to play on a modern console even with no updates. Same with Dragon Force and Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Actual hardware capture showing some of the latest progress on our "impossible" #GTA 3 port to the Sega #Dreamcast!

No more clipping issues, solid 30fps framerate, most effects are present. Very playable at this early stage. Still have a lot of work to go, but she's shaping up quite nicely!

There is an impressive effort going on to make gta3 run on the Sega Dreamcast.
The first months of development of gta3 (back in 99/00) were done on the Dreamcast. For commercial reasons we switched to ps2.
At the time we did think it was technically possible to pull it off on the DC and these guys are actually doing it. Nice one.
