The new forums will be named Coin Return (based on the most recent vote)! You can check on the status and timeline of the transition to the new forums here.
The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
In order to better serve the community as we transition to a new home for these forums, several users have created a User Survey for the Penny Arcade Forums. The survey can be found here:
EDIT: Survey is closed.
The survey will cover your general usage of the PA forums as well as how we might be able to fund a future home for us, along with an open ended response for questions that you might have about this process. The survey is anonymous, with no user data collected, and no login required. All data will be collected in a Google sheet.
This will not be the last time to provide input. It has only been one week since our announcement about the future of the PA forums, and I am certain that future surveys will be distributed by the transition team. But this survey will help guide the transition team through future decisions which affect us all.
Just to share the info with non-surveyors, there's a payment processor coop called Comradery that might suit us better than Patreon, if only because it's not owned by venture capital.

Thanks for the suggestion! We’re looking in to a few options, and this looks like a great one to add to the list.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust
Survey will close on Sunday, November 10 at 11:59PM PST (or, at least, that's the cutoff we have for final responses). We will publish the results on Friday, November 15 in the Future State Planning Center.
Full results or summary statistics? On the one hand, I would love to dig in. On the other, I can only imagine how much we'll manage to beat each other over the head with the written comments alone!

Summaries, to be clear. The long form opinion questions got, at times, pretty heated and many also made them not too hard to identify the authors, so it’s going to be best for everyone to just get an overall summary of those, not a word for word reprinting of everything.

Yeah free text is a nightmare when doing surveys, and I apologize for suggesting one for the financial section.
Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
I don't remember what I wrote I just remember the questions I had
Like if I cannot pay I cannot go to the new forum? Do new members have to pay to get in? If you do the crowd funding thing and fall short what then?
None of these questions have definitive answers but the overwhelming majority of the community seems to be against membership fees, and those few who are even entertaining the idea are in favor of a general "leave a penny take a penny" system for folks to donate to in order to cover any membership fees.
Nobody is in a position to say there definitely won't be any fees, but nobody really seems to want them either.

Hey, just to be clear about one thing: there has never been anything but strong advocacy for the new forums being available to everyone, even if you can’t or don’t want to pay. It will only survive due to folks who can pay, for obvious reasons, but I’m not personally interested in a community gatekept from folks in tighter financial situations, and I think we’d be a worse off community for that.

The only discussion of dues being required for membership (and I think I was the principal person to kick it off) was for membership in the 501c7. I'm not even sure I'm advocating for such a thing. It's just common that 501c7's have membership dues and we'll eventually want to discuss it.
As far as I know everybody, including myself, wants being a member of the forum to be free.

This would also serve as the death knell for any remote chance of recruiting new posters to the forums.

Just for some transparency, I'm the one writing these summaries, which meant I read through every user-generated opinion.

I think I basically wrote nothing for the free form answers, because I can never think of useful things to say. You're welcome.
Word cloud doesn't work for this. Let's say we look at the "dealbreaker" question and the big word that comes back is "civility". Does that mean more civility would be a dealbreaker or less civility would be a dealbreaker? You can't tell.
The only solution is sacrificing Zonugal's mind before the word warp and to read their summary before they are consumed by the chaos gods.

Also its very funny to consider using a word cloud for this because a fragment of a word would be in the center of it, supported by two other ways of referring to the same concept next to it.
I could give y'all three guesses on what was the signature concern expressed in that survey but you'd only need one...
