The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
If all of this is true(and the fact it comes from a forum board doesn't inspire me) this sounds like the next true evolution of music games. Man, with this and GH, there's going to be so much shredding this winter.
That sounds amazing (and expensive). It makes me glad I got a next gen console though. I can't wait for this. The new guitar sounds sweet!
I might even have to invest in the drum kit too.

Konami already did this in the arcades with Precussion Freaks (drummania) + Guitar Freaks + Keyboard Freaks (And I think Beatmania and DDR were able to be added as well but each addition reduced the number of songs).

I know they did. It was more of a, "Hey, why didn't you bring this over first?" but now it's too late, because this sounds like it could be infinitely more awesome than their compiliation.
I still love Bemani, but geeze, Konami, start localizing things before Harmonix takes over the genre completely.
Wow, Activisions got a serious problem on their hands if they dont get GH3 out before this.
i dont really think so. if the rock band guitars are compatible (which it sounds like they are), anyone who buys rock band will be even more motivated to pick up a copy, since one of the more expensive barriers to play will be removed that way.

Last I heard that was upto Activision, as Harmonix was willing to work with them to make their new guitars work with GH3, but I havnt heard any confirmation over whether that will happen or not. Its certainly in the best interest of everyone to do so, as controllers being useful for multiple games would just increase sales for both.
Either way Im likely to buy both(With their resepctive guitars, so I have more choices over what to use) but I can easily see people who plan on only buying one going with Rock Band as they can play both Lead and Bass guitar career modes with the same controller, or if they happen to be more intersted in Drums or Vocals theres clearly only one choice anyways.
And maybe I was exagerating a bit in my first post, Im just more excited over Rock Band then GH3 anyways because I already know Harmonix knows what its doing with music games, as opposed to Neversoft that hasnt done one before now.
As delightful as I find the prospect of finding singers on Live, I'll be passing on this one. This whole concept is just entirely too nerdy, even for me.
Wow....the drum stuff sounds amazing. I love me some guitar, but I've always been a drummer at heart, and if all this turns out as promised I'm going to be a very happy man.
With their accurate drums and their uber-sensitive mic, it's just kind of disapointing that a more accurate guitar isn't on the way.
This would be a bad-ass way to learn. Much more bad ass than going to the community college two days a week for two hour group sessions taught by a guy who looks like Moby...
Xplorer guitars will work for 360 owners, but you may not be able to pass on all the new stuff this model has.
Five familiar buttons near the top of the neck, five buttons near the body of the guitar. You will use these new buttons during specially designed solo sections using ONLY hammer ons and pull offs, no having to worry about your strum bar. Signature Fender 5-way switch has been added. By shopping at the in game store you'll be able to purchase several virtual effects pedals such as Flange, Wah, Chorus and Echo. These can be applied during your song by setting the 5 way switch to the desired effect.
I'm glad they're saying the Xplorer works, but from the sound of it, they're redesigning the controls enough that using the old guitar is just going to give you a nerfed experience. I guess we'll have to see how things play out though.

I think the guitar is complicated enough. The point of the thing is to emulate the action of playing guitar without actually being as difficult, and I think they've struck a good balance.
I think the Xplorer can emulate the Strat pretty well. I would imagine the five fret buttons would just be the same, and the five extra on the RB controller would just be mapped to the five already on the Xplorer. The four effects could go to the d-pad, or something.
I just don't want to have to buy another fucking guitar.

I fail to see how playing the drums on expert would be just like playing the real song on a real drum. There's some stuff missing with only 4 pads and a foot pedal. Drum mania had 5 pads+ foot pedal.

Yeah, i'd like to see a dream theater song on expert

Because playing Guitar Hero on expert is exactly like playing a real guitar.

no, but there's a comment in there that drumming on expert is exactly like playing the actual song on drums, that you could go to a real drumkit and play the same thing.
Or words that imply the same thing, anyway.

Ah, I just skimmed the article. Sorry for being a douche, then.
If one of your band members playing via internet misses a note, does it really matter if the note you hear is note n or n+1?
Remember, in GH you don't actually play a note, you just trigger the song to keep going.
However, the vocals are entirely different. The 360 voice chat is very close to conversational latency, so I think it can be done. Here's hoping.
Hmm, about vocals... have they said whether the player's voice goes into a song? Or does "matching the phenomes" trigger the original singer's voice to keep going? There's kind of a quality mismatch if playing your drum/guitar game makes awesome drum/guitar sounds happen, but your vocals guy still sounds like he shouldnt be singing.
