Nintendo and "stars"

Ok, so I recently signed up to the Nintendo site sort of expecting to be able to refund the whole stars thing for wii points, but alas.. there is no option for that.

So, i've kind of got 2225 stars and well.. there's bugger all on there to get.

Ringtones, they're ye olde real tone format. (plus I can encode the audio of any of my games as MP3's anyway.. for example I have the Speedball 2 music as my ringtone)

Pretty much the same with all this wallpaper stuff, nothing on there that I can't get already for free.

Anyone know if Nintendo intend to improve it at all? From my understanding at one point (as an "accident") they did allow you to change stars into wii points, but that was apparently some mistake that was quickly corrected.

The two DS games (5000 stars each) that are on there are classed as sold out.

Their community forum has been dead ever since I signed up too.

I'm kinda jiffed about it.

Changing stars into Wii points will be possible at some point in the future, so don't waste them on the shitty wallpapers and stuff currently available.

They've recently been asking all their users to sign up to some new Ts&Cs that on the bad side entail your stars expiring after a year or so, but on the plus side mean you'll finally be able to trade them for Wii Points. So it should really be sometime soon, in the next month or so.

Edit: for you Yanks, stars are the loyalty point things we get from the leaflets that come inside Nintendo systems and games.

But obviously to make that into a viable anecdote you have to tart it up a bit.

Each game you buy for Nintendo systems has a Nintendo code inside.

Get the code... input it into your Nintendo Europe account, and you get "stars."

Games are generally worth 250 stars, systems 500. This varies, though. Virtual Console Games etc are automatically credited to your account.

You use the stars to buy rewards. Everything from crappy ringtones and backgrounds for your PC to actual games. I got the Zelda compilation disk off there with Zelda 1, 2, Majora's Mask and OOT on it.

Soon the option will be there to swap your stars for Wii points. Just wait. The option is coming soon.

    Sure thing.

Whenever you buy a Nintendo console or game you get a little piece of paper that includes a pin number, with this number you can then get stars from for example http://www.nintendovip.com.

These stars then allow you to get certain downloads and items. (for example DS games)

What i'm wondering is if anyone knows whether N intend to make any improvements to said site.

This is just confusing. But yes, improvements should be along soon.

And don't give people the wrong idea; actual tangible items only come up on the 'Stars Catalogue' once in every third blue moon. And then there's generally about eight of them and they sell out in one second.

Ah, we get numbers with our games too.

They just don't give us anything for it.

Anything quantifiable, at least. Once in a while they offer promotions (like a few free issues of Nintendo power, or a metroid prime 2 demo disc) and only people that have a certain number of games registered can apply to get one.

But we don't get any sort of points.

I know that Japan does, though.

So now NoA has fallen behind BOTH NoJ and NoE.

For full disclosure, the deal was for registering a system and two of the initial ten games or so. I had to buck up and buy Double Dash!! and Superstar Saga. What a shitty deal...

The extra expense Nintendo of Europe go to in giving us these stars is probably the reason we get games so damn slow. It's another two bloody months until Super Paper Mario is out...

Yeah, but the DS prints money, so the expenses would be covered.

If the queues weren't all backed up because they are busy printing copies of Nintedo Dogs, that is.

I didn't...I've only ever registered my Gamecube. It came with the Zelda compilation too, so I had two copies for a while.

Weird, I know for a fact that I needed to register two games, because I "accidently" opened Superstar Saga, a Christmas gift, so I could register it and get the game sooner, rather than later. It came New Years Eve, and I stayed up and beat Zelda.

It was packed in with the system for quite some time, and it was also a subscription bonus for Nintendo Power for awhile.
