harddrive constant crashing

So heres what happened so far.
my mobo needed a bios update, so i tried using winflash, but that for some reason caused an error, when I rebooted, it went to the boot block since the bios was jacked up. I ran a boot disk and used awdflash to reflash the bios.

after alls fine and done, i see that all the files on my D drive (500 gig maxtor) have garbled up name. I tried to run chkdsk but that crashed and windows no longer saw the hd as valid. reformated, now it's all fine.

however anytime i try to run anything (movie file, program,) on the d drive, it will crash and reboot the pc within a minute. I can download and copy files to the drive fine.
I ran seagate seatools, and chkdsk on the drive, and it detects no problems.

anyone know whats the deal?
