Anyone else enjoy Origins

So I'm relatively new to the forums, but thought maybe there'd be some kindred here who attended the Origins Gaming Convention this past weekend (7-5 though 7-8) and was just hoping to spark conversation. This year was a great con, not as "big" as years past, but I liked the vibe a whole lot more. And next years Kobolds Ate My Baby! Midnight Massacre (ALL HAIL KING TORG!) is gonna be awesome!

I had a pretty fun time. I got into a pick up D&D game Friday night, played Mutants and Masterminds for beginners on Saturday followed by many games of Settlers of Catan (and a variant called Vice Lords of Cat-izzle). And of course many pints from Barley's across the street.

Amen to Barley's although I was disappointed they only had a few of their beers on tap at 5 on Friday night. Cthuluthon was fun, got into a Paranoia game and was on one of two boards of Diplomacy that went 'til 5 or 6 Sunday morning.

Had a blast at Origins, although by Sunday morning I felt like I got hit by a truck... playtested a new system on Thursday (Silvervine Games), did Kobolds Ate My Baby, Normal, Texas, & Paranoia on Friday, the Amorphous Blob scavenger hunt, True20 Freeport & Cheapass Games on Saturday, & playtested another new system (By The Stars) on Sunday. I loaded up on events in an attempt to avoid spending too much time in the dealer room, but it didn't work - I still spent several hundred dollars on new games (mostly at the Mayfair & Titan booths).

    Love Origins.

Hung out in the Rogue Cthulhu / Shoggoth rooms for most of it (Origins is the best Call of Cthulhu gaming convention you will ever go to), but also did some other stuff. Picked up a bunch of board games in the dealer's room.

Plus, MEGA Paranoia LARP - that is the best LARP you'll ever play.

Hey Perverbian - what did you play in the Cthulhuthon? Maybe we met. Rogue Riders... hey!

The red-head bartender at Barley's is kinda hot-ish in a skanky sort of way.

Goodnight Children Everywhere. was the Cthulu setting I played in. It was fun hiding under the table :)
I also Mayored for Kobolds Ate My Baby Thursday and at the Midnight Massacre. Absolutely the most awesome time ever. 100+ people all yelling out "All Hail King Torg!" is something one should be a part of before they die.

Diplomacy Saturday night went from 6PM 'til round about 5:30 AM, we had our minions get beer 'round 1:00 when it was obvious we'd be there past when the bars closed.

Paranoia LARP you say? I may have to research this, what night do they usually run it?

I was short-haired GM at the table next to you who dropped several books on the table to simulate an explosion.

I saw that going on, but was too late to get in on it. That same room was used this year (for the first time) to host the MEGA PARANOIA LARP. That LARP has been run every year at Origins since at least 1998. This year had a Star Wars theme. Very fun.

It's been run on every Saturday Night from 10AM till about 2-3AM. It always goes late.

You should totally play. The basic premise is that you're a Kobold... if you don't know what a kobold is, shame on you, but they're furry runts who many adventurers encounter on the way to level 2 and really aren't good at anything besides dying and cooking food for King Torg (All Hail King Torg). King Torg (All Hail King Torg)'s favorite food is of course baby, which must be served "kickin'" style. Chickens (Kobolds Sworn Enemy) Apples, Free Range Kids, and other Kobolds are also good when served. Generally the game consists of going out, stealing babies (either from humans or other Kobolds) and bringing them back to King Torg (All Hail King Torg). Dork Tower usually has something regarding Kobolds in it. The game runs on the BEER engine and to date is the only official Beer and Pretzels Roleplaying Game.

Ahh, that bomb was awesome, almost hit my head on the table :) As for the Paranoia thing, I'm usually playing something Saturday night which is why I've never seen it. Duly noted for next year. Kobolds next year will be 10 years old and the 9th Midnight Massacre (9th level games publishes it) so they're planning something big.
