    This is interesting. http://news.filefront.com/codename-falcon-probable-prices-xbox-360-systems/
Sometime after September or October, we should see the units that are part of Falcon hitting the shelves. It will all depend on how quickly the old stock clears out. The main difference will be that all systems will have HDMI, different mother boards, more fans and good heat sinks.

Here are the probable prices on systems that will be released during the Falcon period:

    Core $250

    Premium $300

    Elite $350

    Bold my emphasis.

I haven't yet seen anything else on the internet to corroborate it.

That... would be odd. Why drop the system price a little bit now, then a little bit later in two months? Price drops are tricky things... do it too much too quickly, and you make people wonder if you're in trouble. Or is Microsoft just trying to minimize the amount they would lose on the existing stock?

As I said, I haven't seen any kind of corroboration on the Internet regarding this, aside from the buzz about the Falcon update a few weeks back. However, if you check out the full article (I didn't quote it all), the reasoning they have is the price drop that's been confirmed is aimed at clearing out old stock. The Falcon hardware update will have an associated price drop at some point, but not necessarily right away.

The price drop now might be aimed at pushing the Halo and Madden fans over the edge, while a price drop in October would be aimed at Moms buying Christmas presents. Can't find a Wii? The 360 'does the same thing and costs the same'

You'd hope by now Nintendo would have some sort of contingency plan for the holidays, especially considering the upcoming line-up.

I think the contingency plan is Mario and Brawl, both of which will sell bazillions.

He already mentioned that though. That's more of a plan A.

The Wii's plan B (i.e. a pricedrop) won't happen until they stop selling out.

Indeed. It could be read that way. If that is what he meant, then yes, Brawl and Galaxy are a strong fight against Halo 3 and GTA IV, which will probably outsell the Nintendo duo in the states.

I wouldn't bet against Halo 3 and GTA IV coming out on top. But all told, I'm sure the Wii will still sell systems like crazy, partly because of Brawl and Galaxy. I get the feeling both systems will have a great Christmas.

    A) Mom doesn't know that and wouldn't understand it even if you tried explaining it to her
    B) Nothing's stopping MS or retailers from packing in a memory card
    C) You realize that my theory was entirely based on Wii's still being impossible to find around Xmas?

Actually, I meant contingency plan in regard to having enough units due to the anticipated line-up.
This was in response to the 360 being an alternative for gift-buyers who were not gamers, the idea that someone would buy a 360 since they couldn't find a Wii.

Does anyone use their Xbox 360 as a media playback device? Just wondering how simple/easy to use it is when combined with Windows MCE or Vista. Xvid a hassle?

I stream videos pretty easily from my Zune, but I don't have either MC or Vista so I dunno about the other stuff.

I decided today, after leaving the Simpsons Movie, that I want a 360 primarily to play the upcoming Simpsons game. It'll be nice because since I have no HDTV, I can utilize the 17" CRT I use for my Dreamcast.

However, I will not likely pick one up until the holidays.

    C) You're absolutely right then. I did seem to lose that thought in the shuffle. The fact that you still need to get lucky in August to find one shows that this will probably be the case. Also tons and tons of 360's were sold in Nov/Dec last year because the PS3 was too expensive and sold out and the Wii was just plain sold out.

It's marginally easy. Once you set it up... But it will take you a good day or two to set up all your media for streaming through WMP.

You can actually stream from any windows pc as long as it has wmp 9 or whatever the newest one is. But in my opinion it isn't worth it.

I downloaded Zune, checked the share my library option, and streamed music and video from the 360 dashboard. The whole process took about 10 minutes.

You can also plug in an MP3 player and use it for custom soundtracks, which is pretty nice.

I dunno about mp3 players or the Zune. All I know is it was pretty lame trying to do it with a PC. A big disappointment for me was the fact that you can't save music to your 360 from your PC so unless you have you're pc on 100% of the time with wmp running you wont be able to listen to your music all the time.

The music sharing service runs in the background, so you only have to have your PC logged onto windows. It doesn't have to be running WMP. If you don't care for streaming you can always rip music onto your hard drive from a CD.

I would believe that since Nintendo has been saying they are allocating resources to make more Wii units available, they may be holding back since it has taken so long so they can fill up the stores around Thanksgiving. Maybe I'm being optimistic (although, I already own a Wii) but being unable to deliver for two consecutive Christmas rushes would be brutal.
I suppose the demand is still strong, though. So...maybe I just want Nintendo to be nice guys and pull up to apartment complexes with giant truckloads on Christmas Eve, tossing the units to everyone who comes out.

yeah.. there's piss-easy-to-follow guides online, just install WMP9, click a button or two, and you're away. I stream both videos and music across, using the music in games and stuff.
