I have a program on my old desktop that i would like to install on my new computer but it seems that in all my recent moving i threw away the serial number. Is there any way to get it off of my old desktop?
You could also check if it is in any of the files in the installed directory. Some programs with cd keys have cfg or ini files with the cd key in there.
That gets you to the registry. I'm guessing that you'll want to look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE but I've never pulled serials out that way so someone else might point you elsewhere.
it would help to know what the program is... some high profile programs (windows etc) have little apps written by online folks that can fish out your serial number from the registry for you to save you the trouble.
