Sonic Underground is a Tease..

They copy the art style and background story of the old Sonic but then they screw up the characters hardcore. Not only that the really bad music doesn't help at all. Is there a reason they couldn't just pick up where they left off from the old cartoon? It looks like they were trying to be SatAM but for some reason couldn't go all the way.

Underground started late enough that kids who watched SATAM wouldn't still be watching Sonic cartoons, so they probably figured there was no need for continuity (although as I recall, Uncle Chuck shows up in an episode of Underground).

I saw every episode of Underground back when they ran it on Sci Fi Channel in the mornings.

It was bad. It was very, very bad.

I just thought it was kind of weird that they even bothered with a Sonic cartoon during that weird period post-Saturn and pre-Sonic Adventure when Sonic was totally off the radar.

Man, I used to watch the Sonic cartoon. I hated that the TV guide didn't differentiate between the freedom fighters one, and the silly ministories one. That and the schedule kept changing, so I never knew if I was going to get the good Sonic or not.

Is it weird that as a little kid I had the hots for Sally? I also had a crush on Gadget from rescue rangers.
Sometimes I'm amazed that I didn't end up having furry tendencies now.

Just buy the Archie comics. They're awesome. They've got their own little universe going on, but they always manage to tie their own version of game events into it relatively smoothly. And there's a ton of great original characters too.

I was so young that I enjoyed Sonic Underground.

God, that was one horrible show.

People are discussing the differences between two sonic cartoons and why they were changed. I'm pretty sure that falls under debate and/or discourse.

I have about 10 comic books. Do they still make them?

    Yep.

I don't think I actually own a single one, but I scan through them every month at the bookstore, for memories sake.

That said, I once had a dream about a bunch of compilations of it coming out.

So I think I would buy one if it did.

Because dammit, that show was the best advertisement for Chili Dogs -ever-.

Apparently Archie Comics is starting to do little TPBs of the earlier Sonic comics. Like three or four issue TPBs for under $10 each.

I'm waiting for a Gold Brick style compilation, really. Something I don't have to buy forty of.

The Archie comic went through a period of complete suck from about issue 50 to issue 150. Around the time of the Sega Saturn they ran out of new material to base the comic on, so the editor of the comic (Ken Penders) made it into his own little personal shitrag, with tons of ZOMG WHO LOVES WHO DRAMA and dozens (literally) of plotlines that were brought up and never resolved.

Luckily he left about a year a guy, and the guy who replaced him is fucking awesome. In a "time to kill off all the useless side characters and made robotnik a complete fucking badass" kind of way.

Also, if you can, track down the "Chaotix Caper" storyline from the old Knuckles miniseries. It's about the Chaotix tracking down a drug ring run by a mobster rabbit at an amusement park. Seriously. It is completely fucking awesome and easily the best story in the whole Sonic comic's history, despite not involving Sonic or Knuckles.
