Quick question: Sonic & Knuckles (False memories?! INSANITY?! Conspiracy?!)

Ok, so I am sitting here with the very distinct memory of being able to play Sonic 1 with S/K attached. Granted, Knuckles did not appear, but I was sure that doing this would bring up the No Way screen, in which you pressed all three buttons to bring up the passcode screen, where you would enter a special code to unlock the game with nothing more than the Spin Dash added. Maybe this part is wrong, but I DO remember S/K having the ability to play Sonic 1 with the Spin Dash but the internet has NOTHING on this.

What the hell is going on?!

I was under the impression all you got was the ball minigame. Maybe it was the Sonic collection on the consoles that allowed it?

The closest I can think of is Sonic Jam, which contained all four Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic games and allowed you to Spin Dash in Sonic 1. I don't know anything about being able to do that by locking Sonic & Knuckles onto Sonic 1 though.

I've never played Sonic Jam though. Maybe I was creating false memories by reading about it as a kid though. :(

Oh man, that expansion pack was sooooo mindblowing when it first came out.

It was like the Internet... before the Internet.

You were wrong on this. When you hook up Sonic 1 you can't play the game with spin dash or play the game at all. You are, however, able to play through thousands of the Sonic 3 & Knuckles bonus 3-D game by pressing all action buttons. It was called Blue Sphere. Fun thing to do is put in all sorts of other Sega games and you get a special bonus level from the bonus game. I know Sonic Spinball gave you a special one.

I think the only time you were able to spindash in Sonic 1 is if you bought Sega Smash Pack on the Dreamcast.
