EAA's AirVenture starts today, and for the next week, my little town will have the busiest airport in the world and half a million of you stupid fucks coming from all corners of the globe to look at the latest in aerial technology (as well as some pretty neat old planes, too).
I hate you all and I want you all to leave, so if you're reading this, just fucking go
now. None of you can drive properly and every restaurant and store is packed with retarded-ass tourists (insert xkcd joke here).
Worst week of the year, imo.
Actually EAA is hella cool. If you've never heard about it, check out the link above. The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) does a whole lot of neat research for improving planes, jets, space shuttles and similar vehicles. We have this really slick museum here in town that covers the history of flight and talks about up and coming technology.
We have this big fly-in for a week in July every year and you should see some of the cool shit that flies in. Stealth bombers, the Blue Angels, declassified surveillance planes and a shitload more. I could honestly do without all the tourists, but it's a fair trade, I suppose.
Anyone ever been to the EAA Air Show?

You live in Oshkosh.
That I do. Traffic today is horrible.
:^:
It's a wonder there aren't 50 horrible air accidents each year at this thing, from the sounds of it. Like, constant take-offs and landings all week in an improvised airfield.
Isn't that a brand of children's clothes?
What the fuck is going on in that picture?
he's sailing an airship
it's from Stardust, the new neil gaiman movie
The time and effort put into planning this is mind-boggling, I'm told. I can't remember that last time we had a crash at the actual airport. (Plenty of people are stupid fucks who crash en route or on their way home).
t Cap: Oshkosh B'Gosh is a manufacturer of children's clothes, yes.
Hrm. Well, I'm not hip to Gaiman's stuff but De Niro piloting an airship is awesome. Perhaps I'll give it a look.
Wisconsin.
remember, we're not talking about pants
are you still thinking of pants?
Haha, no shit, really?
or county
but sort of close
by extension, eaa sucks
Alabama?
Many years ago I was in a Yahoo chatroom and some chick said she just moved to WI. We got to IMing and eventually started talking on the phone. She was hot, but she had a kid (eh) and kept pronouncing it "wau-KEE-sha".
I didn't have the heart to tell her she was doing it wrong.
Fortunately, I'm leaving for UW-Madison in a month or so, so goodbye Podunkville.
I think I was at a hotel called the Oshkosh.
Or maybe it was something else.
EAA is just plane crazy, yo.
it had a rad name
and flew really fast
and looked really pretty
hey i live there
A group usually flies out from school. Mainly the people who stayed in town over the summer. They didn't go this year, but a bunch of the professors grabbed a plane or two and flew out on their own.
I'd totally go for camping under my wing for a night - 'd be bitchin'.
In fact, I'm heading down next Monday with the last plane-load to check it out for a few hours.
